Advanced Eng. Analysis CFD and Ship Dynamics
CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) is a powerful engineering tool for simulating all types of fluid behaviour.
Provides detailed descriptions of fluid flow characteristics including values for velocities, pressures, temperatures, and
other variables.
CFD significantly reduces design and development time, provides more detailed information than physical experiments,
and quickly simulates a wide range of flow conditions. Different fluids can be modelled at the same time (i.e. water and
air), taking into account viscosity and turbulence (real flow conditions). Time domain calculation (dynamic pressure
loads, seakeeping analysis, slamming loads, etc.) can also be performed.
Over the years Knud E. Hansen A/S has acquired an outstanding CFD knowledge in marine engineering and naval
architecture providing innovative design solutions and quality services to transform engineering concepts into reality.
Knud E. Hansen A/S can provide an accurate estimation of your ship’s required power in accordance with the energetic
efficiencies supplied by the propulsion system manufacturers, with small differences compared to towing tank results.

Knud E. Hansen A/S - NAPA Optifloat: Knud E. Hansen A/S has been chosen from NAPA to delivers the data needed
for NAPA Optifloat. Optifloat is a module within NAPA Loading Computer that help the operator to select the optimal
loading condition for fuel saving in compliant with the vessel strenght and stability. The optimal floating position in terms of
hull resistance is calculated for different trims and loading conditions by CFD in place of model testing.
Visualization of the waves pattern, wetted surface, wake, pressure field, and display of the flow streamlines.
Local flow visualization like transom effect, cross flow, propeller-hull interaction, etc.
Calculation of hydro-aerodynamic effects: Real time calculation of the dynamic pressure on the hull, total lift force, drag
force and moments generated on the hydro and aero parts of the vessel.
DYNAMIC SIMULATION
Knud E. Hansen A/S can provide analyses of the dynamic behavior of your ship or offshore structures. Using our advanced software
tools and expert knowledge we can assess dynamic behavior for:
• Assessment of motions in all six degrees of freedom
• Prediction of accelerations for structural assessment and seafastening design
• Motions assessment for evaluation of vessel operability
• Assessment of hydrodynamic pressures and sea loads for structure analysis
• Assessment of multibody dynamics including interactions effects
AERODYNAMICS CALCULATIONS
Cfd provides valuable and minimum cost solution to model any air flow and ventilation problem:
• Chimney smoke flow analysis
• Aerodynamic flow prediction for passenger comfort
• Fire smoke ventilation
• Ventilation in ship’s engine room
• Effects of the wind on harbour operations
