FROM THE LEADER IN WELLNESS Nikken has been the world leader in wellness technology ever since we pioneered
the concept in 1975. That year marked the beginning of a global enterprise that is now operating in more than 30 countries, has generated billions in revenue an d continues to meet the needs of millions of customers. Our products are always cutting-edge in development and engineering patented uni que innovations that make wellness a part of everyday living. We offer wellness solutions that are available nowhere else. From the beginning, we have been at the forefront of magnetic technology. Our magnetic products incorporate imaginative approaches and a standard of quali ty and durability that is unequalled. We are not only the inventor of the magnet ic insole, sleep system and more, we constantly introduce new products and impro vements in existing models to remain the leader in magnetic design. A NATURAL FORCE Every object exists within a magnetic field. Earth itself is a giant magnet, wit h negative and positive (north and south) poles. Magnetic attraction and electricity are two parts of a single phenomenon called electromagnetism. The two are interrelated; for example, electric current create s a magnetic field, and in an electric motor, magnets are necessary to produce e lectrical power. These two energies electricity and magnetism depend on each other and together t hey represent one of the fundamental components of the universe. All life depends on some combination of various natural phenomena: sunlight, war mth, certain forms of radiation, elements such as carbon, oxygen and nitrogen. E lectromagnetism is another of these preconditions that make life possible. Nikken products with magnetic technology are designed using principles based on the magnetic field that forms part of our essential environment. MAGNETS AND THE BODY The two constituent parts of electromagnetism electrical energy and a magnetic fi eld are naturally present in living things. Electrical energy controls many functions in the human body. Electrical impulses keep the heart beating. They are the basis of cerebral (brain) activity. The se nsation of touch is conducted by electrical nerve signals. However, applying an external electrical current to a living organism can be ext remely harmful, even fatal. In contrast, magnetism the force that is allied to electricity has no known ill effects when applied to a healthy body.* This is one reason why magnets are ideal for practically any application. Even t he most sceptical person regarding the positive effects of magnets, will neverth eless have to concede that there is no downside in trying them out. In other words, magnets present no significant risk. Compare that with any produ
ct or procedure that involves potential side effects or pain. Please note: * Do not use a magnetic product if you have a pacemaker or other sensitive impla nted device. Women in the first trimester of pregnancy should consult a physicia n before using any magnetic device. STATIC MAGNETS VS. ELECTROMAGNETS Why the difference is important There are two ways to produce a strong (attractive) magnetic field with a static magnet, or an electromagnet. With both types, the magnetic field is created whe n the atoms within the object are aligned, that is, pointing in the same directi on. Static magnets A static or permanent magnet is a solid material (usually metal) that has intrin sic magnetism. It can be a natural magnet such as the iron-rich rock known as lo destone or it can be an iron-containing object that has been treated to align it s internal structure. A static magnet retains its magnetism permanently. Refrigerator magnets and hors eshoe magnets are simple examples. Static magnets are available in a variety of strengths.
Electromagnets An electromagnet relies on an electric current to produce the magnetic field. Sw itch the electricity on, and it aligns the atoms, producing the magnetic field. Switch the current off, and the device loses its magnetism. This ability to turn on and off a magnetic field at will has its advantages, and strong electromagne ts are often used in industrial applications as lifting agents. Electromagnetic discharge Because electricity can create a magnetic field, this effect is found in many ob jects that use electricity. Electric motors, electronic devices (including mobil e phones and personal computers) and high-voltage power lines all produce magnet ic fields. This alternating (instead of constant) field is responsible for what is called e lectromagnetic noise. Many scientists and medical authorities consider electroma gnetic noise to be potentially harmful to human health. Others disagree. Numerous studies have been conducted to investigate this issue, and at present there is no universal consensus on their interpretation. But alm ost all will endorse the statement that there is more to be learned before we ca n know for sure whether electromagnetic noise poses a health hazard. Nikken uses only static magnets All magnetic Nikken products rely solely on static magnets. No Nikken product us es electricity to induce a magnetic field. The safety record of static magnets is well established. Some manufacturers prom ote personal magnetic devices that operate by electromagnetism, but Nikken does
not.
