Mammography Quality Control Manual: - Drypro Model 793

This document provides a quality control manual for mammography using the Drypro Model 793 printer. It outlines the regular quality control testing to be performed, including testing the printer maintenance by measuring the density levels of grayscale steps on printed quality control patterns and checking sharpness. Densities should be within tolerance ranges of the default levels and thin lines on the sharpness test should be clearly visible. Corrective actions are described if tests are not passed. The goal is to control and maintain the required image quality and gradation characteristics for mammography.

Mammography Quality Control

Manual
- DRYPRO MODEL 793 -
(The first edition)

MI Quality Assurance Division

Quality Assurance Center
Konica Minolta Medical & Graphic, Inc.
1. Introduction
This is the QC manual designated to implement Quality Control test for Mammography
using DRYPRO Model 793.

2. Test Item
- Regular Quality Control
(1) Maintenance of the print condition on DRYPRO Model 793

3. How to test
(1)Printer maintenance
<Adaptive model>
- DRYPRO Model 793
<Purpose>
a) Control and maintain the required gradation characteristic
(Output density in relation to the target density)

<Requirements>
a) Densitometer: Measuring range: At least 0 to 4.0, Accuracy: Less than ± 0.02 or equal.
b) The Mammo QC pattern image and the density value of each step (Default density)
obtained by the first test.
c) A magnifier that is usually used for diagnosis in the facility.

<Method>
a) Implement the density calibration of the DRYPRO Model 793. It can be done by selecting the
Calibration button on the first screen of the control panel.
b) Refer to the operation manual of the DRYPRO Model 793 to output the QC pattern for
Mammography
c) Measure the density of each step of the output QC pattern for mammography and check if it
is within range of the required density. In addition, check if the thin lines in Spatial
Resolution Test can be seen clearly with a magnifier.

<Measuring points>
The measuring points are shown on the QC pattern for Mammography (Fig) below.

<Contents to evaluate and criteria>
a) Evaluation of density stability
Measure all steps of the 6-step Gray Scale (Fig) and
confirm that each result is within the tolerance as below.

i) Density stability
Measuring steps Tolerances of “Default Density” – “Measured density”
Operating limit Maximum outermost limit
Step 1 (Dmin) -> ±0.03 ±0.03
Step 2 -> ±0.10 ±0.15
Step 3 -> ±0.10 ±0.15
Step 4 -> ±0.10 ±0.15
Step 5 -> ±0.10 ±0.15
Step 6 (Dmax) -> ±0.20 ±0.20

ii) Contrast
Measured (Step 5 – Step 2) - Default (Step 5 – Step 2) = ±0.15

* Notice
- Be sure to implement the density calibration prior to evaluation
- Use less than one month old film after stored in the Drypro
- Output five sheets of the same pattern at installation and write down each value of the
density on the film. Then record the average value of the values of the five sheets as a
default
- For the measured value at the time of evaluation, output a sheet of pattern and record the
measured density value on the film. Compare the difference between the default and the
measured value with the required density range, and check the box of OK or NG in the film.

<Action>
When values obtained are out of the above range,
i) Change film when the first step density is beyond the default ±0.03.
ii) Check the densitometer used in the facility (adjustment of zero point, and etc.) and if there
is anything unsatisfactory, measure again.
iii) If not applicable to i) and ii), implement the density calibration and measure again.
iv) If not applicable even to the above, contact your service representative for measures.

b. Evaluation of sharpness
- Check the thin lines at the three places in Spatial Resolution Test on the QC pattern with
a magnifier and record the results (Yes or No) on the prescribed sheet.

*If not applicable to the above, contact your service representative for measures.

*Notice
- For luminance of the view box, 7000cd/m2 or more is recommended. Evaluate the
sharpness visually, under the environment preferably without outside light.
- This evaluation of QC pattern is only applicable to Mammography film (11x14, 10x12 and
8x10).
- This QC pattern is independent of film size and is printed out in the middle of the film in
the same size image on a different size film.
- Implement this evaluation to every tray where Mammography film has been stored.
- It is recommended that the QC pattern should be evaluated once a week.
