Sign Convention
The X and Y-axes lie in the horizontal plane. Using a right-hand rule, the Z-axis points vertically upward.
Using this sign convention, the design loads are applied as follows:
The vertical force, P, works downward along the negative Z-axis.
The horizontal forces Hxand Hy act parallel to the X and Y-axes.
The moments Mxand Mywork in the X and Y-directions, i.e. about the negative Y and X-axes respectively.
When using the Design Links feature in Sumo Structural Modeller and Frame Analysis, the sign conventions of the
different modules are transposed automatically:
