kumara gurupara muruga saravaNa: "KumarA, GuruparA, MurugA, SaravaNA,

guha shaNmuga kari piRagAna kuzhaga sivasutha: GuhA, ShanmugA, the younger brother of GanEshA
with an elephant-face, Son of SivA,

sivaya namavena kurava naruLguru maNiyE: You are the Master of SivA who Himself is the Master of
the Panchakshara (five letters) SivAyanama" -
endru amudha imaiyavar thimirdha midukadal adhena: This chanting gets loud like the sound of the
churning of the Milky Ocean for Divine Nectar by DEvAs;

anudhinam unaiyOdhum amalai adiyavar: this is the loud prayer chanted daily by Your devotees;

kodiya vinaikodum abhaya midukural aRiyAyO: and do You not hear their appeal made in complete
surrender to You to do away with all their Karmas (bad deeds)?

thimira ezhukadal ulaga muRipada dhisaigaL podipada: (In the war with asuras) the seven dark seas and
the seven worlds were destroyed and all the eight directions were crushed;

varusUrar sikara mudiyudal bhuviyil vizha: the tufts and bodies of the confronting asuras were knocked
down;

uyir thiRaiko damarporum ayilveerA: and You, with the Great Spear, snatched away their lives in the war.

namanai uyirkoLu mazhalin iNaikazhal: With fiery feet that took the life of Yaman (Death-God)*

nadhikoL sadaiyinar gurunAthA: and tresses bearing the River Ganga, Lord SivA has You as His Master!

naLina gurumalai maruvi amar tharu: You have an abode at SwAmimalai, full of lotus flowers;

navilu maRai pugazh perumALE.: and You are praised by VEdAs (scriptures) that are chanted, Oh Great
One!

* In MArkkandEya PuraNam, to save the life of His devotee, MArkkaNdeyA, who surrendered to Him,
Lord SivA kicked Yaman to death with His foot, in the form of KAla Bhairava MUrthi in
ThirukkadaiyUr.
