Ans: 1) The main motive of the private companies is to earn profit.
2) Private company raises the price of water and it is unaffordable for the common people.
3) It is the responsibility of government to provide this facility to the people.
2. Do you think water in Chennai is available to and affordable by all? Discuss.
Ans: No, water in Chennai is not available and affordable by all.
1) Water in Chennai in supplied by municipality which fails to meet the demands 100%.
2) Some areas get regular water supply while many not.
3) People from the middle and upper class are in better position in compare to the lower class.
3. How is the sale of water by farmers to water dealers in Chennai affecting the local people?
Do you think local people can object to such exploitation of ground water? Can the
government do anything in this regard?
Ans: 1) The water dealers pay an advance to farmers for the rights to exploit water resources.
2) People should protest against it because this is their basic need.
3) Government should stop the dealers and give free facility of water to the people.
4. Why are most of the private hospitals and private schools located in major cities and not in
public facilities towns or rural areas?
Ans: Because their main motive is to gain maximum profit. The private hospitals provide expensive
services. These services are only affordable to the person who lives in the major cities.
5. Private hospital and private schools are located only in major cities as the services they offer
are very costly and only the affluent city dweller will be able to afford it.
Ans. 1) The distribution of public facilities in our country is neither adequate nor fair.
2) The people who live in Delhi enjoy every facility like electricity and sanitation.
3) But on the other hand, in Aligarh and Mathura the level of these facilities is not very high.
7. Are the above public facilities shared equally by all the people in your area? Elaborate.
Ans: No, the above mentioned facilities are not shared equally in our area. The slum dwellers have to
manage with a single water tap, whereas each house in the middle class locality has a separate
connection for water.
However, other facilities, like electricity, roads and public facility are shared equally by all.
