COURSE SYLLABUS
ENGLISH 2.2 – 2ND SEMESTER
I. INTRODUCTION
This course is the second part of three consecutive courses which enable NEU students to prepare for
the IELTS test. It is designed for first year students of Advanced Education Program at National
Economics University. The course will take 7 weeks.
II. GOALS
The course aims at:
Equip students with skills to report, summarize important trends in statistics, analyze data, diagrams,
processes effectively in IELTS writing part 1, using more flexible and advanced structures and
vocabulary.
Enable students to compose different types of essays including 'advantages and disadvantages' essay,
and opinion essay.
Enable students to brainstorm the ideas and select vocabulary needed for a specific writing task
quickly and effectively.
Encourage students to write in good fluency and accuracy under pressure of time
Enrich students’ knowledge about writing and reading to reach intermediate level in English.
III. OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
Apply techniques and skills to describe graphs, pie charts, process, etc. effectively
Produce different types of essays including 'advantages and disadvantages' essay and opinion
essay.
Create an outline quickly
Write essays within the time limit with high fluency and accuracy

VI. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
An overall and on – going policy will be applied. All four language skills and knowledge will be
assessed throughout the course; the students’ participation in in-and-off class activities and their
homework fulfillment are also part of the assessment.

Note: Attendance explained:
1. If students miss class > 20% of 44 periods, they will retake the course;
2. If students get under mark 5, they will not be allowed to attend the final test
3. If students fully attend the class, they will get 9-10 marks;
4. If students are late twice, they will be marked to be absent 01 class;
5. The excuse for absence is not allowed.
