Scrubbers
Scrubbers are high efficiency air pollution control equipments. The process takes place by ‘scrubbing’
the pollutants by contacting them with a scrubbing media.

There are various types of Scrubbers that are design and manufactured by SFGE, Mainly
Packed Bed Scrubber
Venturi Scrubber
Impingement plate scrubber/Sieve tray Scrubber
Horizontal Cross Flow Scrubber.
Packed Bed Scrubber:
Packed-bed scrubbers consist of a chamber containing layers of variously-shaped packing material,
such as Raschig rings, Pall Rings, Snowflakes, spiral rings, or Berl saddles, that provide a large surface
area for liquid-particle contact. The packing is held in place by Grid retainers and supported by a
plate near the bottom of the scrubber. Scrubbing liquid is evenly introduced above the packing and
flows down through the bed. The liquid coats the packing and establishes a thin film. The pollutant
to be absorbed must be soluble in the fluid. In vertical designs (packed towers), the gas stream flows
up the chamber (counter current to the liquid).
SFGE’s custom-designed and fabricated packed tower scrubbers are engineered for select
applications for optimum tower diameter, packing depth, recirculation flow rate, and the
appropriate mist eliminator style. Packed tower scrubbers can be designed to handle a wide range of
airflows and can be constructed from a variety of materials. Packed tower systems, when designed
correctly, can successfully ventilate harmful, toxic gas streams and exhaust clean air back to the
atmosphere.
Venturi Scrubber:
Venturi Scrubbers mainly helps in removing tiny particles of dust from gas-stream. there are three
segments Converging segment, Throat segment and Diverging segment. At the first level the gas
enters into converging segment, which reduces the area inside, alternatively gas velocity
automatically increases. Liquid will be applied either at the throat section or at the entry level to
converging segment of Venturi Scrubbers system. Venturi Scrubbers are built with very advance
technology which overall helps in separations of small particles and flow the pure gas through
outlets units.
This kind of systems are used in the pulp industry, paper production industry, chemical industry,
food container industry, metal manufacturing unit. SFGE is one of the leading venturi Scrubbers
manufacturers in India.
Impingement plate scrubber/Sieve tray Scrubber
An impingement-plate scrubber is a vertical chamber with plates mounted horizontally inside a
hollow shell. Impingement-plate scrubbers operate as counter current PM collection devices. The
scrubbing liquid flows down the tower while the gas stream flows upward. Contact between the
liquid and the particle-laden gas occurs on the plates. The plates are equipped with openings that
allow the gas to pass through. The simplest impingement-plate scrubber is the sieve plate, which has
round perforations. In this type of scrubber, the scrubbing liquid flows over the plates and the gas
flows up through the holes. The gas velocity prevents the liquid from flowing down through the
perforations. Gas-liquid-particle contact is achieved within the froth generated by the gas passing
through the liquid layer. Complex plates, such as bubble cap or baffle plates, introduce an additional
means of collecting PM. The bubble caps and baffles placed above the plate perforations force the
gas to turn before escaping the layer of liquid. While the gas turns to avoid the obstacles, most PM
cannot and is collected by impaction on the caps or baffles. Bubble caps and the like also prevent
liquid from flowing down the perforations if the gas flow is reduced In all types of impingement-
plate scrubbers, the scrubbing liquid flows across each plate and down the inside of the tower onto
the plate below. After the bottom plate, the liquid and collected PM flow out of the bottom of the
tower. Impingement-plate scrubbers are usually designed to provide operator access to each tray,
making them relatively easy to clean and maintain. Consequently, impingement-plate scrubbers are
more suitable for PM collection than packed-bed scrubbers. Particles greater than 1 μm in
aerodynamic diameter can be collected effectively by impingement-plate scrubbers, but many
particles.
Horizontal Cross Flow Scrubber:
In applications where there is a mixture of particulate and mist, we recommend Cross Flow
scrubbing technology, where the gas stream enters the scrubber horizontally, perpendicular to the
packed bed. A spray header located at the inlet initiates the gas/liquid contact and provides
irrigation at the front of the packed bed. Additional spray headers located at the top of the bed
provide complete irrigation and wetting. In this the gas flows horizontally through a series of
scrubber / filter stages. These are stages using mesh media, Packed Bed & vane type Droplet
separator which is irrigated or an initial ‘spray only’ step.
The mist in the gas is sprayed, agglomerated and then removed in the first stages steps within the
system. A spray stage, one or more packing/scrubbing stages to remove particulates, a gas scrubbing
stage, and a final demister stage are features we can use and tailor in each design.
Horizontal Cross-flow scrubbers are commonly used in the surface finishing industry where space is
limited and inlet loadings are relatively low
Dust Collector :
A dust collector is a system used to enhance the quality of air released from industrial and commercial
processes by collecting dust and other impurities from air and environment. Dust collection system
works on the basic principle of capture, convey and collect. Dust collectors are used in many
processes to either recover valuable granular solid or powder from process streams, or to remove
granular solid pollutants from exhaust gases prior to venting to the atmosphere. Dust collection is an
online process for collecting any process-generated dust from the source point on a continuous basis.
Dust collectors may be of single unit construction, or a collection of devices used to separate
particulate matter from the process air.
SFGE Manufactures a wide range of dust collectors as per industry standards.. We also do custom
design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of dust collectors and dust collection system
together with hood, ducts, blowers, chimney along with other accessories for our customers.
Industries:
Foundry Grinding Buffing Cement Sand Blasting
Pulp & Paper Wood working Agriculture
Basic components of dust collectors include a blower, dust filter, filter cleaning system, dust
receptacle(hood) and dust removal system. Four common types of dust collection equipment are:
Pulse Jet Dust Collectors
Cyclone Dust Collectors / Cyclone Separator
Cartridge type Dust Collector
Reverse air bag House.
Pulse Jet Dust Collectors :
The dirty or contaminated air enters the dust collector through the inlet and passes through a number
of filter cartridges/bags which retains the dust particles on the exterior surface while allowing clean
air to pass through the outlet. As the collector operates, the collected dust begins to form dust cake,
which eventually diminishes the porosity of the filter cartridges. Pulse jet bag filters get their name
from the short bursts or “pulses” of compressed air used to clean the bag or filter.. Either on a timed
basis or based on pressure drop when the dust cake is at an appropriate thickness, a controller
activates a sequential pulse of compressed air into the interior of the filter bags, one (or more) row(s)
at a time, knocking the dust and dust cake free of the filter to fall via gravity into the hopper for
removal. The mechanics of the compressed air pulse and associated induced draft of additional air
through a venturi nozzle create a shock wave and ripple effect on filter bags which enhances the
mechanical force of the initial blast of compressed air itself, to dislodge the dust particles off the
fabric.
Cyclone Dust Collectors / Cyclone Separator
Cyclone Separator separate dust from gas streams using a combination of forces, such as centrifugal,
gravitational, and inertial. These forces move the dust to an area where the forces exerted by the gas
stream are minimal. The separated dust is moved by gravity into a hopper, where it is temporarily
stored.
Cyclone dust collector separates the heavy dust particles from the air stream using centrifugal
cyclonic/vortex effect due to tangential rotation. Cyclone dust collector system creates a dual air flow
to separate coarse from fine dust. The main air flow goes downward and carries most of the coarser
dust. The inner air flow created around the bottom of the cyclone, goes upward and carries the finer
dust particles. The fine dust is captured by the filter attached to the outlet via a centrifugal fan,
followed by filter bags, a collection tank may be provided to collect the fine dust.
Cartridge type Dust Collector
Cartridge collectors use perforated metal cartridges that contain a pleated, nonwoven filtering media,
as opposed to woven or felt bags used in baghouses the Cartridges are usually round but sometimes
oval or other shapes, these capture dust or fumes on their outside surface. the cartridges are cleaned
by the conventional pulse-jet cleaning system.
Cartridge filters are made from a blend of polyester and cellulose. Manufacturers apply coatings to
this material. Nanofiber coating increases filtration efficiency.
Because of the pleated material, these filters provide much more surface area for filtration. The
pleated design allows for a greater total filtering surface area than in a conventional bag of the
same diameter, The greater filtering area results in a reduced air to media ratio, pressure drop,
and overall collector size. This makes a cartridge type dust collector ideal as a smaller, less bulky
system.
Reverse air bag House.
The name reverse air generally refers to the method used to clean the filters. Dust laden air enters
through an inlet module (or hopper) where heavy dust particles drop out of airstream and remaining
fine particles are filtered by an array of filter bags on the inside surface. As dust accumulates on the
inside surface of the filter bags, regeneration fans located on the clean air side of the filters blows air
in the reverse direction exerting force, dislodging the material from the bags. The Reverse Air Bag
House is a custom-built filter, designed for cleaning gases with typically high flow rates and high
temperatures.
