Typical Open Well Stiar Case 6,7,8,9

This document provides details for designing an open well stair case using the limit state method according to IS 456-2000. It includes specifications for the stair geometry, loads, and structural design calculations. The maximum bending moment is calculated to be 163.44 kNm. The required effective depth is determined to be 250.81 mm to resist the factored bending moment. Reinforcement of 1.08% is provided, exceeding the 0.64% minimum required. The provided span to effective depth ratio of 29.41 is less than the allowable 30.44, confirming a safe design.

DESIGN OF OPEN WELL STAIR CASE 6,7,8,9

(Limit State Method as per IS 456-2000)

Rise of the Step (Rise) 160.000 mm

Tread of the Step (Tread) 260.000 mm
Width of the Step (Width) 1.000 m
Span Length (L1) 2.275 m
Span Length (L2) 4.346 m
Span Length (L3) 2.275 m
Live Load (Lload) 5.000 kN/m2
Railing Load (Raiload) 1.000 kN/m
Finishes Load (Finload) 1.200 kN/m2
Effective Cover 20 mm
Grade of Concrete (M) 30 N/mm2
Grade of Steel (Fe) 550 N/mm2
Detailed Design of Stairs

Assuming the waist slab thickness approximately as 35-40 mm for every metre longitudinal span.
Waist Slab thickness = (Wst) = (L1+L2+L3)x40 = 335 mm
Dead weight of Waist Slab on inclined area (Dlws) = Wst x 0.025
Dlws = 335 x 0.025 = 8.375 kN/m2
Dead weight of Waist slab on Horizontal area (Dlwsh) =
Dlws x SQRT(Rise2 + Tread2)/Tread =
8.375x SQRT(160^2 +260^2)/(260) = 9.834 kN/m2
Dead Weight of Steps (Dwsteps) = 0.5 x Rise x Conc Density =
Dwsteps = 0.5 x 160 x 25 / 1000 = 2 kN/m2
Live Load on the Stair Case (as per IS 875) = 5.000 kN/m2
Finishes Load on the Stair Case (if any) (Fin. Load = 1.200 kN/m2
Loading on Spans L1 and or L3 per metre run (Landing Portion) :
Wl1 = (Dlws + Lload + Finload) = (8.375 + 5 + 1.2) = 14.575 kN/m
Wl3=Wl1/2= 7.288 kN/m
Loading on Span L2 per metre run (Flight Portion)
Wl2 = ((Dlwsh+Dwsteps+Lload+Finload)xwidth + Raiload)/width
Wl2 = ((9.834 + 2 + 5 + 1.2) x 1 + 1) /1 = 19.034 kN/m
