1. My whole family was going to Bandung city for our vacation.

We were going to taking the airplane to

Bandung city. (Correct answer is Take).

Why is taking an incorrect word? Why can’t we replace it with took, takes or taken. Why it must be
take? Taking is wrong because it's an adjective used in the wrong sense. Take is a verb and it's used
before action. Also, we can’t use any type of verb except v1 after an expression going to because it’s
only used for future tense. Therefore, take is the correct answer because it’s part of v1 verbs.

2. It was my first experience flies on an airplane. I was very excited. (Correct answer is flying).

Why can’t we replace it with fly, flied, or flies? Why it must be flying? Flying is also an adjective word
and the correct word to use. Adjectives are used to describe nouns. * Flying here is not used as a verb,
but rather as gerund. Gerund is a form that is derived from a verb but it’s used as a noun. And it always
ends in -ing. E.g., flying, eating, dancing. Therefore, flying is the correct answer because it’s used as
gerund.

3. There was many students who sneaked out from the class yesterday. (Correct answer is were)

Why can’t we replace it with are, is, and am. Why it must be were? The sentence above is in past tense.
Using the word am would not make any sense at all. The answer is not are because are is a present
tense and the word were is for past tense. Using the word was wouldn’t make sense either because the
subject is plural, not singular.

4. If you helping me clean, I will do your homework. (Correct answer is help)

Why we can’t replace it with are going to help, helps, helped. Why it must be help? Correct word is help
because the other words aren't right to use. Not helps as the plural is not needed here. Therefore, the
correct answer is help as help is a transitive verb.

5. I give you money if you do your homework well. (Correct answer is will give)

Why can’t we replace it with gives, gave, will gave. Why it must be will give?? Because it makes sense in
this sentence to use the phrase I will give you money, as money is a noun.
6. Identify the error in this sentence. "Anne wants a few sugar for her hazelnut drink".

Why a few is wrong?? Because of what? And write the right sentence! The error here is a few and the
right sentence should be Anne wants some sugar in her hazelnut drink. Some is an adjective and the
word some can represent a certain unspecified number.

7. Identify the error in this sentence. "I have been in Malang since 10 years"

Why "since" is wrong??because of what? And write the right sentence! The correct phrase should be I
have been in Malang for 10 years. For is the correct word as it is used to show a period of time whether
it's past, present or future. The word since only refers to a certain point in history.

8. Identify the error in this sentence and replace it with a correct answer! "We checked in and went to
the departure hall. Since we had not has time for breakfast we ate at the airport".

Why "had" is wrong??because of what? And write the right sentence! So, the correct sentences here are
‘We checked in and went to the departure hall. Since we had no time for breakfast, we ate at the
airport.” The phrase had no time here is more correct and less wordy, since had is a past tense and no is
an adverb. Therefore, it correctly shows that the subject had no breakfast.
