The villa was commissioned by the brothers
Nicolo and Luigi Foscari, members of a
patrician Venetian family that produced
Francesco Foscari, one of Venice's most noted
doges. It was built between 1558 and 1560. It
is located beside the Brenta canal and is raised
on a pedestal, which is characteristic of
Palladio's villas; this pedestal is more massive
than most of Palladio's villas (the base is 11
feet high, more than twice the height Palladio
normally used) because it was not possible to
construct a subterranean basement on the
site.
The villa lacks the agricultural buildings which
were an integral part of some of the other
Palladian villas. It was used for official
receptions, such as that given for Henry III of
France in 1574. Source
The raised pedestal works well to make this one of
Palladio's grandest villas, rising above the Brenta
Canal. Like the best of his designs, it has a simple
composition and lets the classical forms speak to
themselves without being drowned in detail.
According to local lore, it earned its nickname
"Malcontenta" after one of the Foscari wives locked
herself away in it, possibly after being unfaithful to her
husband.

I already saw this one but then I realized that I was
confused!
Basically, I though this was the same villa where
Losey's Don Giovanni (1979) movie was set, but I
actually discovered the one used as set for the movie
was Villa Almerico Capra!
The cooler fact is that they look very similiar beacuse
the architect was the same: the great Andrea Palladio.
In fact, there are few villas in Vicenza made by him,
not so far from each other, and this complex of villas
is simply named "Ville Palladine".

I am an absolut fan of the postmodernist
architecture of Ricardo Bofill. Here is an
exemple named "espace d'abraxas" in the
suburbs of Paris. What do you think about it?
