I. Imagine you and your partner are futurists and it’s your job to predict the future. Think about the topics in the
box and predicti what changes Will happen in these áreas by 2040. Write 2 examples per each topic.

3. Use the structures studied in class to speak about predictions: will, going to, may, be likely to.
COMMUNICATION: I think that in 20 years’ time we’ll have cellphones that don’t necessarily need to be charged or
be with us in a physical way a phone is made now a days. They could be in the shape of a wrist watch and become a
phone with a hand signal for example. Another one that may exist is a TV that know exactly what you want to watch
and that won’t need internet to work; just your brain will be necessary.
WORK HABITS: A work habit that is mostly likely to exist is the one in which people won’t actually need to be at there
work physically but only a representation of them at work for example a hologram or a robot. Another one that may
exist the one in which jobs will be fused together with another one to make a new one or some jobs might actually
cease to exist.
TECHNOLOGY: In the future technology is going to be very sophisticated because already from now a day we’re
seeing that technology is reaching expectations people haven’t even imagined could exist. Some examples of this
could be a note book in which you wont necessarily need to write on with a pen or pencil but just your mind thinking
of a subject and it will appear written on the note book and something that is likely to exist is an implanted earphone
in which you could adjust the incoming noise volume that comes your way with just a thought of it.
CITIES: In the future some cities which are the first world countries are likely to have floating building because those
building won’t have the necessity of occupying land which is going to help with the over population as far as
habitability goes. Teletransportation booths may also exist to make the cities move more quickly and less need for
could exist because of it.
FOOD: Food, as we all know it, is going to be very scarce in the future because of the constant increase of the world’s
population. This problem will obligate investigators to come up with ideas to counter attack this possible outcome.
Some of these things are going to be pills that, through hydration, will make food appear and another invention that
could is the one which is not natural and just recycled sane food that was rescued and then recycled
THE ENVIRONMENT: The environment, as we know it, is going to be critically damaged or compromised by our own
doing so in the future we are most likely to see inventions like an artificial ozone layer that could protect us from the
UV rays. And we’re also going to see a device in which people are fined severely for damaging the environemente
depending on how much damage that person has caused.
