E. TRANSACTION ERROR CODES AND MESSAGES

[A summary of changes to this appendix is located at the end of the document in Section E.1.
It contains a list of error codes that have been added or whose messages have been clarified or
updated, categorized by the location in this document. In addition, changes are marked
throughout the document. [Opening and closing brackets] surrounding text signifies changed
material.]

This appendix contains all active and inactive error codes and messages for the CSENet
application. When enhancements or modifications are made to the application, the error
message lists are updated to reflect the changes.

[Chart E-1 displays all potential fatal errors in a CSENet transaction. Multiple messages may
be generated for a transaction unless the transaction contains a fatal error. After the first fatal
error is identified, the validation process for that transaction stops and the fatal error is written
to the Error Report.]

Chart E-2 lists the possible active transaction error codes and messages produced by the
CSENet application when processing or validating a transaction file from a state CSE system.

Chart E-3 details the inactive transaction error codes that are not currently being used for
validation.

In addition to error messages, the CSENet application can produce and send a warning code
and message in the error file under certain conditions. Implemented in 2004, a warning
message indicates that the transaction data fails to meet usage recommendations, but will
nevertheless be routed to the destination state. A warning message code is preceded by a ‘W’
and is numbered in sequence with error message codes.

The description of the error message is based on the requirements specified in Appendix C,
Data Block Record Layout. See this appendix also for definitions of any abbreviations, such
as those for value types or functions.

Chart E-1 lists the potential fatal errors in a CSENet transaction. [There are two types of
errors: non-fatal and fatal. Fatal errors differ from non-fatal errors in that the severity of the
error causes validation of a transaction to stop. Examples of fatal errors include “Invalid Other
FIPS County” and “Duplicate Transaction Serial Number.”]
