CP11B Manual EN 2016-05

The CP11B Calibrator is used to calibrate and test electricity meters, relays, transformers, and power quality devices. It generates AC voltage from 0.5-560V and current from 0.001-120A across four ranges each, and can adjust frequency, phase, power factor, and waveform. The calibrator is controlled via a touchscreen or PC software and housed in a standard 19" rack case. Operators must take safety precautions when connecting loads due to the high voltages generated. The document provides instructions on start-up, operation, and specifications of the calibrator.

CP11B Manual EN 2016-05
1. FIELD OF APPLICATION

The CP11B Calibrator is used for adjusting, checking and verification of measuring apparatus
used in Power Engineering: electricity meters, frequency, voltage and current protection relays,
current transformers and clamps, ammeters, voltmeters, transducers, monitoring systems and
power quality analyzers. The CP11B has high accuracy and simultaneously huge output power with
relatively small dimensions and weight. The tester has possibility to get error characteristics of
tested meter in automatic way. The CP11B Calibrator is single phase source of AC voltage and
current and enables to set:
 voltage „U” in range 0.5…560V in four sub-ranges: 70-140-280-560V,
 current „I” in range 0.001…120A in four sub-ranges: 0.5-6-20-120A,
 frequency „f” in range 40…500Hz with possibility of synchronization to power net frequency,
 phase shift „” in range 0…360,
 power factor „cos” or „sin” in range 1…0…+1,
 power „P”, „Q” and „S”,
 energy „EP”, „EQ” i „ES”,
 wave shape of generated signal: sinusoidal or distorted by harmonic (with programmed
magnitude and phase – poliharmonic distortions), interharmonic (with programmed magnitude
and phase) or special shapes (phase fired, triangle and burst);
 changes of U+I++f as a function of time.

The CP11B Calibrator is placed in standard 19” aluminium case with height 4U and is
controlled from the front panel with touch screen or by means of PC and Calpro 300 software.

2. OPERATING AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

CP11B Calibrators can be used in compartments, in which utilization conditions are according to
tabl.2.3 (I group of utilization according to IEC 60359 inside buildings and for conditions which
usually are in laboratories and factories where equipment is used and handled with care). At direct
near of the Calibrator should be not salt, water and aggressive gases and lack of strong magnetic
and electric fields. CP11B Calibrators can work in horizontal (e.g. table) or vertical (e.g. floor)
position.
CP11B Calibrators can be stored in package in temperature range 0…+50C and can be shipped in
temperature range 20…+60C.
CP11B Calibrators are class I protection instruments according to the EN 61010-1. Its metal case
is connected to the protective earth cable of power cord. Calibrator may be used in safe localization,
i.e. in places where operator can not touch details conducting electrical current connected to ground
potential.
The low potential of output voltage terminals can safely "float" a maximum of 200V relative to
ground.
Calibrator generates on the voltage terminals high and danger voltages. Staff should be very
careful during load connection to the Calibrator’s terminals. Connecting and disconnecting of the
load should be done with switched ON standby function, by means of the pushbutton
OPERATE/STANDBY on the touch screen or button STANDBY in the PC Soft. The state is signalized
by lighting of the red STB lamp placed near the output terminals and by lighting of the red lamp of

Single Phase Power Calibrator and Power Engineering Apparatus Tester type CP11B www.calmet.com.pl
2/24 CP11B Manual EN 2016-05
OPERATE/STANDBY button on the touch screen. After the load is switched, the Calibrator can
generate signals by pushing the button OPERATE/STANDBY again or OPERATE in the PC Soft.
The state is signalized by switching OFF the STB lamp near output terminals and by lighting of the
green lamp of OPERATE/STANDBY button on the touch screen.
Calibrator is protected against the increase of temperature inside the case. Triggering of the
thermal protecting circuit is signalized by switching on of the two OVL lamps and two STB lamps.
Coming back to the normal operation is made automatically after return to the utility of working
conditions.
Do not open the case and adjust or exchange details during exploitation. When the Calibrator is
damaged, it should be disconnected from power supply and measurement circuit. Manufacturer
provides warranty service and after warranty service.

Attention: when the leaden seal is crashed, user lacks rights to warranty service!

When the fuse beside of power supply socket is overheated, then it should be exchanged to the
type T2A, 5x20 for power supply 230V or T4A, 5x20 for power supply 110V.

3. START UP OF THE CALIBRATOR

On the Fig. 4.1 is presented the Calibrator’s front plate view, where are marked:
POWER Power supply switch
U output voltage terminals - red terminal has high potential HI and black terminal
has low potential LO. In the terminal field U there are STB lamp for
standby/operate function and OVL lamp for signalling of overload.
Switched ON lamp is for the state standby, in which the output voltage is
disconnected from the output terminals. Switched OFF lamp is for the state
operate, in which at the output terminals there is the voltage with set value.

There are on the back panel of the Calibrator:

- socket of power supply with protective earth terminal,
- two sockets for fuses with fuse T2A, 5x20 @ 230V or T4A, 5x20 @ 110V,
- calibrator’s data plate,
- leaden seal.

Before switching on the calibrator should be connected to the power network (according to Tabl.2.3).
Power socket should be equipped with protective earth connection which is also connected to the
calibrator’s case. If the calibrator should be controlled from the front panel, it is ready for operation now
– for pressing the power supply switch Power.
If the calibrator should be controlled by means of PC computer, one should connect the socket of the
USB mini-B interface, which is placed on the front panel, with PC computer using the USB A
– USB mini-B interface cable. Transmission is made through the USB port COM with the speed 57600
bits/s. One frame consists of: 1 start bit, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit without parity control. Data are sent in
ASCII code. Commands are described in the transmission protocol document “C300B Transmission
Protocol”.
CP11B Calibrator can be controlled by a PC computer with Calpro 300 PC Soft, described in document:
Operation Manual of the Calpro 300 PC Soft.
After switching on the Power button (and starting up of the Calpro 300 PC Soft and establishing the
communication between calibrator and computer), calibrator is automatically in the standby state.
Change of the Calibrator’s state to operate can be made by button STANDBY/OPERATE from the touch
screen or OPERATE in the Calpro 300 PC Soft.
Full accuracy is achieved after 30 min. of warm up time. It is also possible to use Calibrator earlier
without waiting for warm up. In this case the only consequence is possibility to cross over the
accuracy approximately two times according to tabl.2.1 and errors in tabl.2.2. The remainder of
the Calibrator parameters are not changed.
