TLE - HEDM9-12SK-Ia-c-1: San Joaquin National High School

The document outlines a weekly learning plan for a Grade 10 Technology and Livelihood Education class. The plan covers taking measurements needed for drafting and cutting patterns for ladies' skirts. On the first day, students will review skirt terminology and types through a quiz. They will then learn about taking key body measurements, including the waist, hip, and desired skirt length. Students are assigned to measure an actual client at home and record the measurements. The remaining class time will be spent discussing skirt components and styles through a presentation.

Ladies’ Skirt (Draft and Cut Patterns for Ladies’ Skirt)
Take Client’s Body Measurements

Skirt is a free hanging part of an outer garment or undergarment extending from the waist
down to a particular length of the garment. Ladies’ skirts are of different styles, types and
shapes. The names of the skirt signify its shape or design. They are worn to cover the lower
part of the body. A dressmaker can make any style and design on the skirt in different ways
based on the figure of the client. However, be careful in wearing skirt which is only suitable
for some specific blouses or tops.

Definition of Terms:

Drape - adorn, cover or wrap loosely with folds of cloth

Body Measurements for a Skirt

1. Waistline Measurement. Run the tape
measure around the waistline. (A) This
is the measurement around the smallest
part of your waist. You can tie a string
around to find the smallest part. Wrap
the tape around first to find your
natural waist, then measure. *When
measuring a circumference, put two
fingers under the tape measure. This
will serve as additional allowance.

2. Lower Hip Measurement. On the

other side of the hip, run the tape
measure from the waistline level to the
level where the buttocks are fullest. This
will be where the lower hip level will fall.
(B)
3. Lower Hip Line. Run the tape measure
along the lower hip level were the
buttocks are fullest. If the stomach is
prominent or rounded add an allowance
of 1-2 inches until the fullness of the
stomach is covered. (C) This is done so
that the skirt will fall nicely and not
bulge around the stomach area.
4. Skirt length. Run the tape measure
from the waistline level down to the
skirt length desired. (D) Skirt length may
vary depending on the skirt style. Note
4
down the varying skirt length that you
may desire, like mini length, channel
length, midi length, etc.
