 Able to display super-human strength by ripping off Grendel’s arm in battle
 Able to show super-human strength by holding breath while sinking for hours in the bloody, boiling water of
Grendel’s mother’s home
 Is of noble birth being that grandfather, father, and uncle are past and current Geat kings
 Displayed the characteristics of being a good friend to Brecca—staying by him for 5 days until separated by a
flood—despite being able to easily win the swimming contest
 Saved Geat people from attacks from fire-breathing dragon despite being 70 years old
 Has extensive knowledge of the sea, sailing from Sweden to Denmark
 Displayed honor by repaying father’s debt to King Hrothgar
 Became king of the Geats after death of King Higlac
