BOM (Bill of Material)

The document discusses header level and item level bills of materials (BOM) in SAP. A header level BOM treats the parent item as relevant for pricing and child items as not relevant for pricing. An item level BOM treats the parent item as not relevant for pricing and prices child items individually. The document provides steps to create materials and BOMs in SAP using transaction codes like MM01, CS01, and VA01 and map them using item category groups in the material master.

BOM - Bill of Materials

BOM: - To sell the products in the combo packages.

 When you want to sell any product in the combo manner
For example: In any supermarket they are trying to sell the
1. 5 kg of Rice + Atta Packet + Oil, they try offer with
Particular prize.
 If you want anything in the form of package then we try to take help of BOM Concept.
 We use the concept of BOM only to sell the combo packages
 Selling the product in the combo packages we are going to work with 2 types of BOM.
1. Header Level BOM
2. Item Level BOM
Note: Basically, we need to understand different between header level & Item level and how it is going
to work out here.
If I am trying to work with BOM, to understand the concept of the BOM, we need to take an example.
Now I am going to take Computer is the product is the best example to understand the concept of the
BOM.

Example: -

HEADER LEVEL BOM: -

 In SAP terminology we need calls as Parent Item & Normal terminology we call it as a Main
Product.

 In SAP terminology we need to call as Child Item & Normal terminology we call it as a
Components.

Note: - When we are going to work with Header Level BOM, the only parent item will be relevant for
pricing and child item will not be relevant for pricing.

ITEM LEVEL BOM: -

 In Item Level BOM the parent item will not be relevant for the pricing & the child item will be
relevant for the pricing.

 Here we are purchase the item individual and to know the price we have summed to get the
total price.

Note: -
Now we need to map these things in the SAP for these we need to go for item category group.

ITEM CATEGORY GROUP: -

 Here the item category group will be updating in the sale organization -2 in Material Master
data

 Item category groups are used to map the parent item with child item of header level BOM.

 In Item category group parent Item can be represented as the ERLA-MATERIAL

STRUCTURE ABOVE

 In Item category group child item can be represented as the NORM-STANDARD

In Item Category the parent Item is represent as the

SALES DOCUMENT TYPE + ITEM CATEGORY GROUP+ USAGE + HIGHER LEVEL

CATEGORY TYPE will be determined as TAQ.

In Item Category the child Item is represent as the

SALES DOCUMENT TYPE + ITEM CATEGORY GROUP+ USAGE + HIGHER LEVEL

CATEGORY TYPE will be determined the Item Category as TAE.
Item category groups are used to map the parent item with child item of Item level BOM.

 In Item category group parent Item can be represented as the LUMF-MATERIAL

STRUCTURE ABOVE

 In Item category group child item can be represented as the NORM-STANDARD

In Item Category the parent Item is represent as the

SALES DOCUMENT TYPE + ITEM CATEGORY GROUP+ USAGE + HIGHER LEVEL

CATEGORY TYPE will be determined as TAP.

In Item Category the child Item is represent as the

SALES DOCUMENT TYPE + ITEM CATEGORY GROUP+ USAGE + HIGHER LEVEL

CATEGORY TYPE will be determined the Item Category as TAN.

Now the same thing we are going to MAP on the SAP, for these we need to follow the particular steps.
1. We need to create the materials with the help of the T-CODE = MM01.
2. After creating the material we need to Create the BOM, here we are going tell to the system which
one will be acting as the Parent item and which one will be acting as Child Item. By using
T-CODE
CS01 -CREATE
CS02 -CHANGE
CS03 -DISPLAY
3. We need to change the Item Category Group as ERLA / LUMF for Parent Item by using Material
Master change T-CODE = MMO2.
4. Explode the BOM in the order by using TCODE = VA01.
Steps to BOM to MAP in the SAP
Step 1: -
1. using the TCODE=MM01 to open create the Material Master Data.

2.
 Type Material Name in Material filed
 Type what type of material in industry sector field
 Should provide only finished product in a material type
 Click on the Select view.
3.
 Here in the Select view we need to select whatever we require in order to create the
Material Master
 And then select on org level
4.
 Now enter the details of the Plant, Storage Location, Sales Organization, Distributed channel.
 Click on the Default Setting.
 Click on the Tick Mark

5.
 Here we need to enter the required data in the fields of the Basic Data.
6.

 Here we need to enter the required data in the fields of the Sales Organization 1.
7.
 We need to check the field of General item category group & Item category group as NORM in
the Sales organization 2.

8.
 In the sales General / Plant Date we need to update the fields of the Transport Group &
Loading Group.
9.
Here we are not maintaining the sales text as it does not require.

10.
1.Now are moving to plant data / storage 1

2. In these we need to set the storage conditions as A1.

11.
1. Now click on the Accounting 1.
2. We have to fill the field of the Valuation Class is 1709. But when we are practicing, we have to
valuation Class as 7920.

3. Represent the filed of the standard price as 25000.

12.
Maintaining the price and we need save it.
13.
This is the first product what we have been created.

14. After creating the Material ACCOMP.

1. Now we use the particular product ACCOMP information and try to copy information to the
material that is AMONITOR.
15.
 Here in the Select view we need to select whatever we require in order to copy the content
from material ACCOMP to Material AMONITOR.
 And then select on org level

16.
1.Copy the Plant, Storage. Location, Sales Organization & Distributed Channel in to Copy from
2.Click on Default Setting
3.Click on tick mark.
