Instructions:

 Read each statement carefully.

 Provide a clear and concise answer for each item. You may refer to other references online aside from the
handout. Cite the reference properly.

Short Essay:
1. After learning about business analytics (BA) and business intelligence (BI), come up with a
comparison between the two.

Business intelligence focuses on the data's representation of recent and historical events.
The focus of business analytics is on future events that are most likely to occur. Moreover, through
the information it has obtained, business analytics typically focuses on making predictions about
future events; it will offer forecast scenarios as well as solutions for the identified risks. In the other
hand, business intelligence concentrated on the recent and historical events that were recorded in
the data system and provided insights into the activities required to make a decision. This clarifies
the query, "What is occurring right now, and why? The two practice use data and both have the
same objective, which is to increase productivity.

2. Galleto (2018) mentioned that “While Business Intelligence answers what happened; Business Analytics
answers why it happened and whether it will happen again.” What are your thoughts on this?
The way that data is handled and used varies. Business intelligence offers reports and presentations
via dashboards or charts to let the end-user know how their current strategy is performing. While the
business analytics will develop more statistical analyses and develop creative business strategies to
enhance the effectiveness of the prior approach. As a result, reporting data rather than using it in
innovative ways will be more prevalent, this will assist the organization in making decisions about how to
develop.

3. As an exercise, look on the web for examples of data service providers. List them down. What sorts of
services do these big data providers sell to their clients?
 SAP – Managing business sectors' finances, human resources, procurement, and logistics is
made easier by this business suite. This uses the cloud to enable the transfer of data from the
data system to the applications.
 Microsoft – a large international technology company that creates personal computers,
consumer goods, computer software, and related services. It is a leading manufacturer of
software and products.
 Cloudera - allows for a degree of data processing that goes beyond data gathering and
archiving. The updated capabilities of Cloudera enable quick and simple data analysis while
monitoring and protecting it in various contexts. It converts data into understandable, useful
insights.
 Google Cloud- it consists of a set of physical assets, such as computers and hard disk drives,
and virtual resources, such as virtual machines (VMs) that are contained in Google's data
centers around the globe. Each data center location is in a region.
 iCloud- iCloud Drive is Apple's version of Dropbox. It's a cloud-based, document-oriented
file-storage service that keeps your data in sync between various devices: PCs, Macs, iPhones,
iPads and so on.

4. Trace the evolution of business analytics by writing down the features of analytics (i.e., its
application, tools used) as employed in the following eras:

Prehistoric:
In the old times people used sticks and stones to

Industrial (1800s)
Business analytics had its beginnings during this time. Business
management emerged as a scientific discipline throughout the

Information age (mid-20th century)

With the advent of Decision Support Systems in the 1970s,
innovation begins to emerge in this era; computers significantly
influenced the development of business analytics. During this time,
data warehouses—the forerunner of today's server farms—also
gained popularity as a tool for organizing massive amounts of data.
The majority of analytics were utilized at the highest levels of
organizations and enterprises up until the twenty-first century.

Internet age (21st century)

Big data, the cloud, and the internet all came about. With the daily
collection of enormous amounts of data, analytics is now affordable
and practical for enterprises of all sizes. We can now utilize business
analytics to predict future trends and behavior in real time because of
advancements in the field.
