Security information
Siemens provides products and solutions with Industrial Security functions that support the secure
operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary
to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept.
Siemens’ products and solutions constitute one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems, machines
and networks. Such systems, machines and components should only be connected to an
enterprise network or the Internet if and to the extent such a connection is necessary and only
when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network segmentation) are in place.
For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please visit
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.
Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are available
and that the latest product versions are used. Use of product versions that are no longer
supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber
threats.
To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial Security RSS Feed

1 Introduction
1.1 Standardization and decentralization in process plants
Plants in the process industry must meet ever increasing demands for flexibility,
scalability, availability and security - but at the same time, with operating times of
up to 30 years and more, must remain convincing to customers by providing top-
tier future and investment security. With SIMATIC PCS 7 V9.0 and a multitude of
hardware and software innovations, Siemens provides the intelligent answer to this
complex challenge.
The standardization of process plants is becoming increasingly important, as it
offers enormous savings potential in terms of project duration and costs.
Standardization can be divided into the following areas:
Standardized development of the automation program through a uniform
library (blocks and measuring point templates)
Standardization of automated solutions and automation components by
means of templates
Decentralized management of field devices, e.g. based on PROFINET and
PROFIBUS PA
Standardization of process instrumentation for recording and controlling
the process variables pressure, temperature, flow, level, etc.
Uniform equipment of the tanks of process section plants with different

volumes
The SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system with its PROFINET-based hardware
innovations SIMATIC Compact Field Unit (CFU) and the SIMATIC ET 200SP HA
remote IO system provides the basis for implementing standardization. With
PCS 7, plant sections, the so-called unit templates, are planned in a standardized
manner and reused several times in the project. Via the control module
Type technology, changes to measuring points in the project are easily updated in
all plant sections.

Note For the successful integration of the decentralized I/O approach, it is also
necessary to implement a concept for the power supply.
How this can be realized in detail for the CFU is discussed in the following
article:
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109757358
Not all channels of the CFU are occupied by a measuring point, thus additional
reserves are available for individual expansions.
If, for example, a stirrer in the reservoir is retrofitted, it can be controlled via a
reserve channel (DIQ) of the CFU. In addition, a feedback signal can be used to
detect the "stirrer active" signal.
Similarly, there is a possibility to provide an additional PROFIBUS PA field device,
for example, to measure the heating flow.
The automatization program for the storage bin is based on the standardized
control module types (CMT) and technical functions from the applications example
"technical functions using the example of the chemical industry".
You can find the download the application example of the CMT at the following link:

channels. The individual channels can then be adapted to the channel
granularity.
Further information on integrating the field devices with PA profiles, as well as with
device specific GDS files, including a comparison of advantages, can be found in
chapter 5.2.
Note Only field devices with PROFIBUS PA Profile V3.x can be operated with the
CFU. The maximum cable length between the CFU and a field device is 120 m.
Devices that use PA address 2 or 3 when connected to the CFU cannot be
addressed automatically.
Devices with hardware addressing must be set to the correct PA address.
SIMATIC PDM optionally offers comprehensive functions for parameterization
and diagnostics of the connected field devices.

2. Download the configuration to the CFU. The channel is now deactivated and
the sensor/actuator is without power.
After preparation, the sensor/actuator can be replaced. A distinction is made
between the two variants "Replace sensor/actuator with the same type" or
"Replace sensor/actuator with another type".
Preparation
The power supply of the field devices is activated by default. The connection of the
field device must be deactivated for the exchange.

Siemens AG 2018 All rights reserved
3. Load the changes to the CFU (3). The connection is now deactivated and the
field device can be replaced.
In addition to deactivating the connection, the addressing of the field devices must
also be conducted. For optimum operation, software addressing is recommended,
as this allows parameterization by the CFU.
However, if hardware addressing is used, the hardware address must be set
according to the fieldbus connection. The PROFIBUS addresses are permanently
assigned to the fieldbus connections FB<n> and can be seen in the following table.

the two variants "Replace sensor/actuator with the same type" or "Replace
sensor/actuator with the different type".
Note If PROFIBUS PA profiles have been planned for the field devices in advance, a
field device can be replaced by a compatible field device without changing the
project planning.
1. Remove the field device from the project setup of the HW Configuration.
2. Load the project setup.
3. Connect the new field device to the CFU.

5.1 Naming Convention for Measurement Points and CFC
Plans
For the designation of the measuring points a uniform naming convention was
used, whereby the function is designated according to the European standard EN
62424. The following figure shows how a measuring point designation is
composed:

The following figure shows the configuration of a CFU with two SITRANS TH400
temperature transmitters, on the fieldbus connection "FB 0" (1) with PA profile and
on the fieldbus connection "FB 1" (2) with the device-specific GSD file.
Figure 5-1
PROFIBUS PA profiles are standardized device description files that contain the
basic properties and standard functions of field devices. These are defined by the
PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) association and are therefore
manufacturer-independent.
With PA profiles, a universal device type in HW Config is planned instead of a
specific device. This configuration allows you to flexibly integrate all PA field
devices of this type without changing the hardware configuration. The only
requirement is that the physical device supports the selected PA profile.
To access the device functions and parameters via PDM, you can use either the
manufacturer-neutral PA profile EDD or the device-specific EDD. The device-
specific EDD offers a larger range of parameters and functions and must be
reassigned after replacing the device with another field device type or newer
model.
5.2.2 Device-specific GSD files
Device-specific GSD files (device master files) are provided by the manufacturer
and contain all the specific properties and functions of a device that are required
for its project planning and operation.
As a result, the device-specific GSD files sometimes provide more functions than
the PA profiles. As an example, the SIPART PS2 positioner has additional status
bytes in addition to the pure control value when configured via the device-specific
GSD file.
