1Introduction

1 Introduction
1.1 Standardization and decentralization in process plants
Plants in the process industry must meet ever increasing demands for flexibility,
scalability, availability and security - but at the same time, with operating times of
up to 30 years and more, must remain convincing to customers by providing top-
tier future and investment security. With SIMATIC PCS 7 V9.0 and a multitude of
hardware and software innovations, Siemens provides the intelligent answer to this
complex challenge.
The standardization of process plants is becoming increasingly important, as it
offers enormous savings potential in terms of project duration and costs.
Standardization can be divided into the following areas:
 Standardized development of the automation program through a uniform
library (blocks and measuring point templates)
 Standardization of automated solutions and automation components by
means of templates
 Decentralized management of field devices, e.g. based on PROFINET and
PROFIBUS PA
 Standardization of process instrumentation for recording and controlling
the process variables pressure, temperature, flow, level, etc.
 Uniform equipment of the tanks of process section plants with different

volumes
The SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system with its PROFINET-based hardware
innovations SIMATIC Compact Field Unit (CFU) and the SIMATIC ET 200SP HA
remote IO system provides the basis for implementing standardization. With
PCS 7, plant sections, the so-called unit templates, are planned in a standardized
manner and reused several times in the project. Via the control module
Type technology, changes to measuring points in the project are easily updated in
all plant sections.

1Introduction

The SIMATIC Compact Field Unit enables standardized device integration of

PROFIBUS PA devices directly in the field. Along with the transmitters from the
comprehensive Siemens Process Instrumentation product portfolio, this provides a
standardized solution from a single source.

1.2 Content of the application example

The application example describes how you can use SIMATIC PCS 7, the
SIMATIC CFU, Siemens Process Instrumentation and Control Module Types
(CMT) to standardize and decentralize your plant sections using the example of
storage tanks.
Chapter 2 shows the exemplary storage tank including a standardized automation
solution. Section 3 shows the configuration and parameter assignment of the

1.3 Mode of operation

The SIMATIC CFU is installed in the direct vicinity of the subsystem and connected
directly to the automation system - e.g. the SIMATIC CPU 410 - attached to
PROFINET. Up to eight freely configurable digital inputs and outputs as well as
eight PROFIBUS PA channels of the SIMATIC CFU are used for acquisition and
control, as well as for controlling the process data and signals of the subsystem.
The following figure schematically shows the structure of a subsystem including
sensors and actuators, as well as the communication used.

Decentralized configuration with SIMATIC CFU

With the SIMATIC CFU, you can also implement decentralized approaches in field
device integration in the future as an alternative to classic centralized approaches.
This means that the devices of the subsystem are not routed to the control cabinet
via distributors or connection boxes, but connected directly to the SIMATIC CFU in
the field. It is applicable for up to eight PROFIBUS PA devices and eight freely
configurable digital inputs/outputs.
The summarized benefits of SIMATIC CFU:
 Automatic addressing of the PA field devices.
 Reduction of efforts for device integration and device replacement.
 Reduced cabling and wiring errors compared to multilevel connections
(distributed peripherals, MTAs, etc.).
 Less planning and documentation required.
 Standardization of plant sections.

Comprehensive portfolio for process instrumentation

With the SIMATIC family, Siemens offers a robust and integrated product portfolio
for process automation. A comprehensive product portfolio of transmitters and
pneumatic valve positioners is also available for process instrumentation,
process controllers and recorders for a wide variety of applications.
Additional information is available under the following link:

systems/de/messumformer/seiten/prozessinstrumentierung.aspx

Standardized engineering with control module types (CMT)

Control Module (CM) technology is not just used to optimize engineering efforts,
but also to make a standardized structure of the automation program possible while
quickly adapting to future demands.
For this purpose, a CMT (measuring point template) is created as a CFC plan with
a large number of optional blocks and stored in the master data library. Optional
modules required for the respective variant in the project are defined during
instantiation. One version is available, for example, for a display measuring point
for the input signal (4-20 mA or PA field device).
Further information on engineering with CMT is available in the application
example "Control Module (CM) Technology - Efficient Engineering in SIMATIC
PCS 7" under the following link:

2.2 Device integration with SIMATIC CFU

The SIMATIC CFU is used to record, control and regulate the standardized
integration of the storage tank. This is installed in the direct vicinity of the storage
tank and integrated into the process control system via PROFINET.
The SIMATIC CFU has the following interfaces:
 Eight freely configurable channels (digital inputs/outputs for sensors or
actuators)
 Eight fieldbus connections for one PROFIBUS PA field device each
These enable the integration of all measuring points of the storage tank with a
single CFU.

Note For the successful integration of the decentralized I/O approach, it is also
necessary to implement a concept for the power supply.
How this can be realized in detail for the CFU is discussed in the following
article:
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109757358

2.2.1 Channel allocation

The following table shows the channel allocation of CFU.

Not all channels of the CFU are occupied by a measuring point, thus additional
reserves are available for individual expansions.
If, for example, a stirrer in the reservoir is retrofitted, it can be controlled via a
reserve channel (DIQ) of the CFU. In addition, a feedback signal can be used to
detect the "stirrer active" signal.
Similarly, there is a possibility to provide an additional PROFIBUS PA field device,
for example, to measure the heating flow.

2.2.2 CMT Used

The automatization program for the storage bin is based on the standardized
control module types (CMT) and technical functions from the applications example
"technical functions using the example of the chemical industry".
You can find the download the application example of the CMT at the following link:

Note For the efficient configuration of the channels, the SIMATIC CFU offers the
option of choosing the settings in the "Cross Channel" folder.
Changes made to the parameters in this folder are automatically applied to other
channels. The individual channels can then be adapted to the channel
granularity.

3.2 Integrating the PROFIBUS PA field devices

The eight fieldbus connections of the CFU enable the integration of a PROFIBUS
PA field device each. The point-to-point connections assign a fixed PA address of
20-27 to each fieldbus connection. PA field devices are addressed automatically
when connected.
There are two possibilities for integrating the PROFIBUS field devices with the
CFU:
 PROFIBUS PA profile
 Device-specific GSD files
PROFIBUS PA profiles enable manufacturer-independent project planning of PA
field devices by describing the standardized minimum functions of the various field
device types. This has the advantage that the field device exchange is easier to
manage in terms of spare parts, since the devices being exchanged do not have to
be identical. They only have to support the configured PA profile.

3Commissioning and maintenance with SIMATIC CFU

Further information on integrating the field devices with PA profiles, as well as with
device specific GDS files, including a comparison of advantages, can be found in
chapter 5.2.

Note Only field devices with PROFIBUS PA Profile V3.x can be operated with the
CFU. The maximum cable length between the CFU and a field device is 120 m.
Devices that use PA address 2 or 3 when connected to the CFU cannot be
addressed automatically.
Devices with hardware addressing must be set to the correct PA address.
SIMATIC PDM optionally offers comprehensive functions for parameterization
and diagnostics of the connected field devices.

3.2.1 Configuration of a SITRANS TH400 via a PA profile

The procedure for configuring a SITRANS TH400 using a PA profile is described

below. The PA profile "Transmitter 2 AI" is planned instead of the device-specific
GSD for SITRANS TH400. Additionally, the device specific EDD is assigned.
Assigning the EDD is optional.
The CFU supports the following two configuration options for field devices using a
PA profile:

Procedure – Adjusting the device parameterization

The parameterization of the field devices is performed offline in the parameter table
of PDM. The parameters assignment values are subsequently written via the
download into the devices. This has the advantage that the device
parameterization can also be carried out at a later point in time. Notes on the
device can be stored in the "Message" column.
The following steps describe the procedure for offline device parameterization as
an example:
1. Adjust the device parameterization and measurement point information
according to your requirements in the parameter table (1)
The "day" ("day") (2) has been changed to "TIC_Tank" and the "installation
date" (3) of the SITRANS TH400 has been changed to "28.09.2017".
2. Click on the "Load into device..." button (4) to load the changes into the device.

3.3 Configuration of SIMATIC CFU PA

In addition to the HW Configuration, an additional configuration option for the
SIMATIC CFU is the commissioning assistant in PDM.
The setup assistant in PDM offers additional options and functions compared to the
HW Config, e.g. alarms for monitoring the power supply and the electronics
temperature can be configured.
You can start the Setup Wizard via the menu item "Device > CFU PA V1.0
Configuration" ("Device > CFU PA V1.0 Configuration").

3.4 Service and maintenance

In combination with the PDM, the CFU offers a range of functionalities that make it
possible to maintain or repair a system component quickly and easily. However,
regular maintenance of the CFU itself is not necessary.
For the maintenance of field devices and sensors or actuators, it may make sense
to deactivate the connection of the field device or the sensor/actuator channel.

2. Download the configuration to the CFU. The channel is now deactivated and
the sensor/actuator is without power.
After preparation, the sensor/actuator can be replaced. A distinction is made
between the two variants "Replace sensor/actuator with the same type" or
"Replace sensor/actuator with another type".

Note Replacing sensors/actuators during the process mode (AS in RUN)

If you want to replace a sensor/actuator in process mode, it is imperative that the
alarm OBs are configured. (This is done by default in PCS 7)

Replacing sensor/actuator with the same type

1. Connect the new sensor/actuator to the CFU . The sensor/actuator can now be
used.
2. Activate the channel and load the data into the CFU.

Replacing sensor/actuator with another type

1. For the exchange with another type, the channel must first be parameterized
again. For the procedure, please refer to the chapter 3.1 "Configuration of the
freely configurable channels".
2. Connect the new sensor/actuator to the previously mentioned channel of the
CFU .
3. Activate the channel and load the new parameters into the CFU.

3.4.2 Replacing a field device

Preparation
The power supply of the field devices is activated by default. The connection of the
field device must be deactivated for the exchange.

Deactivating the field device connection

1. Open the PDM by double-clicking on the CFU in the HW Configuration where
you want to exchange a field device, the PDM
2. Open the display of the PROFIBUS PA parameters (1) by clicking on "CFU

3. Load the changes to the CFU (3). The connection is now deactivated and the
field device can be replaced.
In addition to deactivating the connection, the addressing of the field devices must
also be conducted. For optimum operation, software addressing is recommended,
as this allows parameterization by the CFU.
However, if hardware addressing is used, the hardware address must be set
according to the fieldbus connection. The PROFIBUS addresses are permanently
assigned to the fieldbus connections FB<n> and can be seen in the following table.

5.2 Comparison between PROFIBUS PA profile GSD and

device-specific GSD
There are two ways to integrate PROFIBUS PA field devices with the CFU in PCS
7:
 PROFIBUS PA profile device descriptions
 Device-specific data descriptions
Both PA profiles are available for cyclic communication (GSD in HW config) and
acyclic communication (EDD in SIMATIC PDM).
The following table highlights the advantages and disadvantages of project
planning with PA profile GSD or device-specific GSD.

5.2.1 PROFIBUS PA profile GSD

PROFIBUS PA profiles are standardized device description files that contain the
basic properties and standard functions of field devices. These are defined by the
PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) association and are therefore
manufacturer-independent.
With PA profiles, a universal device type in HW Config is planned instead of a
specific device. This configuration allows you to flexibly integrate all PA field
devices of this type without changing the hardware configuration. The only
requirement is that the physical device supports the selected PA profile.
To access the device functions and parameters via PDM, you can use either the
manufacturer-neutral PA profile EDD or the device-specific EDD. The device-
specific EDD offers a larger range of parameters and functions and must be
reassigned after replacing the device with another field device type or newer
model.
5.2.2 Device-specific GSD files

Device-specific GSD files (device master files) are provided by the manufacturer
and contain all the specific properties and functions of a device that are required
for its project planning and operation.
As a result, the device-specific GSD files sometimes provide more functions than
the PA profiles. As an example, the SIPART PS2 positioner has additional status
bytes in addition to the pure control value when configured via the device-specific
GSD file.
 Siemens AG 2018 All rights reserved

In addition, the device-specific EDD file is automatically assigned when configuring

the device-specific GSD file.

5.3 Overview of Profile ID Numbers and PA Profiles

PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) defines unique ID numbers for the PA
profiles. These are included in some manuals. However, readable names are used
for project planning in HW Config.
The following table gives an overview of the profile ID numbers and the
corresponding PA profiles (configurable in HW Config).
