ONSAP

Online Navigation Simulator Assessment Programme

Objective:
Online Assessment to evaluate competency level of Navigating officer’s prior joining
the vessel.
Test is to be assigned – Randomly from the approved data bank to a Navigating
Officers and assessment report will be generated basis the Target Acquired, Penalty
Marks and Bonus Marks.
The satisfactory completion of this online assessment will be mandatory every time
prior joining the vessel.
Coverage:
All Navigating Officer Globally employed on FML vessels.

Expected Time for Evaluation:


Practise test - 15 Min
Actual test Time - abt 40 Min
Test requirement and Evaluation Criteria:
1)Test should be computer base (e.g. i3 or higher processor) with internet
requirement abt 10 Mbps.
2)To ascertaining the skill and knowledge of officers, on the Bridge/Navigation
related situation.
3) Core focus of the above will be on the decision-making ability with respect to
situation and for emergency repones
4) The focus will be to check procedure followed as per the SMS during these
Navigational Situations.

Test Run- Loging In and getting started

After clicking on the link provided


the following tab will open.
(Prefreably use Chrome Browser).
Enter the Login details provided in
the email

After loging in the Esimcloud tab


opens up .Click the down arrow at
Bridge Simulator and a Web Based
Assesment opens up .Click the
down and then select Exercise
1:Test Run

A tab then opens giving you the


instructions for the exercise read
carefully and press 'YES' .After clicking
YES the site will check your internet
{upload/download speed}. Anything
above 10mbps is good enough for this
simulator .After checking the Internet
click on the 'Run the Simulator' button.
It is Important to enable Pop Ups for
the Chrome Browser
Once the simulator is ready the
following screen pops up .the
exercise is Paused . Once you
resume the exercise you can toggle
between 3 windows 'Radar' ,'Ecdis'
and 'Visual'. This excerise gives you
the chance to tune the Radar &
Ecdis and check all the settings
available

A lot of functions are available on


the Radar . We can use Radar Rage
Rings , scale , ARPA, EBL ,VRM ,
AIS,Vector Lentgh , Past Position ,
True and Relative Vectors , CPA
,TCPA , Off centre and Radar
Tunning settings.While switching
Range scale (Left click -to increse
the range ) and ( Right click -to
decrease the range)

Ecdis does not have much functions


available Except EBL/VRM , Past
Position , Charts display and Vector
Length

Note the time limit is 15Mins ,


Submit Before 15mins or else it gets
Auto Submited and the results are
not generated for the office. Once
the excercise is submitted the result
will appear . You can download the
results
Transiting TSS - Loging In and getting started

Click the down arrow at Bridge


Simulator and a Web Based
Assesment opens up .Click the
down and then select Exercise
2:Transiting TSS

A tab then opens giving you the


instructions for the exercise read
carefully and press 'YES' .After clicking
YES the site will check your internet
{upload/download speed}. Anything
above 10mbps is good enough for this
simulator .After checking the Internet
click on the 'Run the Simulator' button.
It is Important to enable Pop Ups for

Once the simulator is ready the


following screen pops up .the
exercise is Paused . Once you

and 'Visual'. Own vessel is transiting
through the gibraltar TSS- East
bound and then making approach to
Pilot station .There is an overtaking
situation and a crossing situation in
this excercise .
Use the binoclur to maintain a sharp
lookout . Steering can be done by
hand as well as auto . Hand sterring
is a bit difficult to do with the
mouse . I used the auto pilot
function which works satisfactorliy
even at low speed . Make use of
sound signals . call master ,
summon for extra lookout and
inform E/R as per company
Standards for Gibraltar . Use
engines wisely and transit at a safe
speed .
Make use of EBL / VRM to check
the vessel position . Track all the
targets on ARPA .SET CPA / TCPA
limits accordingly .Proper use of
Vectors(True and Relative) and
vector length . AIS function can be
used for identificaton of the targets
aswell . Tune the radar
appropriately .While switching
Range scale (Left click -to increse
the range ) and ( Right click -to
decrease the range)

The route is already loaded in the


ECDIS . We have Monitor the vessel
progress along the planned route .

Note the time limit is 60Mins ,


Submit Before 60mins or else it gets
Auto Submited and the results are
not generated for the office. After
40 mins once you have reached the
pilot station pause the excercise and
submit .Once the excercise is
submitted the result will appear .
