Modern Tools - English

The document discusses several modern tools used in manufacturing including lathes, drilling machines, milling machines, hobbing machines, gear shapers, and grinding machines. It provides details on each tool, describing their functions and common applications in machining various materials like metal, wood, plastic, and more. Modern tools have allowed for threading, cutting, grooving, drilling, milling, and other machining of complex geometric shapes and parts.

MODERN TOOLS
MODERN TOOLS USED IN MANUFACTURING:

LATHES
Industrial lathes are machines that appeared during the industrial revolution;
designed for threading, cutting, machining, roughing, turning and grooving metal,
wood and plastic revolution parts that have a geometric shape by means of
revolution mechanisms.

Pieces of revolution:
 Tubes
 Cones
 Propellers.

DRILLING MACHINES
Drilling machines are commonly and generally used in the construction and repair
of electric power transmission lines, communication lines, lake foundations,
construction of industrial and civil objects.
Applications:

 Drilling a well to access a natural source:

water, oil, geothermal energy, etc.

 Extract samples of mineral deposits.

 Analyze the physical properties of rocks,

soil, and groundwater.

 They can be used in underground

installations: tunnels, wells or pipes.

MILLING MACHINES
A milling machine is a machine tool for machining work by chip removal, through
the movement of a rotary tool with several cutting edges, called a milling cutter.
Through milling, the most diverse materials can be machined, such as:

 Wood
 Steel
 Iron foundry.
 Non-ferrous metals and synthetic
materials.
 Flat or curved surfaces, notches,
grooves, serrations, etc.

HOBBING MACHINES
The drill is a machine or tool with which most of the holes that are made to the
pieces in the mechanical workshops are machined.
There are many types of drills, the most common are:

 Corded electric drill.

 Cordless drill.
 Rotary hammer.
 Column drill.
 Mini drill.
 Cordless mini drill.

GEAR SHAPERS
A gear former is a machine that cuts teeth on internal or external spur and helical
gears with a drill bit equipped with teeth of the same pitch and shape as the
completed gears.

GRINDING MACHINES
Grinding machines are machine tools that use a rotating wheel to remove material
from a metal part by cutting.
Grinding machines are mainly used for hard and fine machining of parts.

 Universal grinders.
 Surface grinders.
 Front grinders.
 Tangential grinders.
 Cylindrical grinding machines.
