Personal Professional Disposition Statement
As an educator, my job is not done when I clock out and it does not begin when I clock
in. I am more just a teacher of subjects, but an advocate for my students. I am an example for
what they should aim for, and I am a positive influence of what Christianity is all about for my
students. It is my desire to modeling and scaffolding a positive learning environment based on
the principle of love, compassion, and dedication for all my students. I believe it is my
responsibility to learn everything about my students that I can to show my desire and love for
their diversity.
Reflection:
My self-assessment supports my professional dispositions statement in the sense this is
how I view my education and code of ethics. I am dedicated to being a positive influence in and
out of the classroom. I treat all students with compassion and fairness. My teaching career is very
important to me, and I really believe in all the students. I am very confident in what I can do for
all of my students regardless of the diversity of the student.
I have grown in many ways throughout this program of study. The greatest growth I have
seen in myself is having high expectations for students with disabilities. I did not really feel the
need to challenge the students, but after learning so much I can say that I expect just as much out
of them as the regular students in the general education classroom. I did not think at first that I
believe a teacher had to use a variety of instructional strategies to optimize student learning. I
also had to learn why it was so important to know about the communities and the students
themselves.
“Dispositions are qualities one possesses or acquires to meet the expectations of a
profession. The Model Code of Ethics for Educators (NASDTEC, 2015) are the professional
standards and dispositions that teachers must possess and adhere to in order to be effective in
their classroom and the profession. The Professional Dispositions Module (PDM) should be
completed at the beginning of the program of study to ensure you possess an understanding of
the foundational topics that govern an educator’s practice.” (Professional dispositions modules
n.d.)
There are a lot of things I need to work on and utilizing Professional Development and
working with seasoned teachers will benefit me a lot as I begin to improve any the areas in which
I am not as strong. One of my biggest steps will be on the job training and learning through trial
and error. I will always be open to feedback and constructive criticism. I understand I am not an
expert and that I will constantly have to learn and that will be the one thing I am looking forward
too.
