Product Description
The DSC-1146E System Controller is a Native BACnet Building Controller that communicates on a
Twisted Pair 10-BaseT BACnet/IP and BACnet over Ethernet network, or on an RS-485 LAN using the
MS/TP BACnet protocol.
The DAC-1146E Application Controller is a Native BACnet Advanced Application Controller that
communicates on a Twisted Pair 10-BaseT BACnet/IP and BACnet over Ethernet network.
The DAC-1146 Application Controller is a Native BACnet Advanced Application Controller that
communicates on an RS-485 LAN using the MS/TP BACnet protocol.
With 11 inputs, 6 binary TRIAC outputs and 4 universal outputs, the DxC-1146 is suitable for controlling
various packaged units and other equipment with medium I/O requirements.
As the controller is completely programmable, GCL+ programs and BACnet objects can be tailored to the
specific application.
Both firmware and controller databases are loadable over the network.

Controller Type : Various products have the capability of being configured as either a
System or a Subnet controller type which represents the network level that it will reside
on in the network architecture. Other than the one controller acting as a router, all other
controllers on the same network segment must be configured the same.
System - Configures the controller as a System level controller on a network of System
controllers. This is the default setting and used when the controller is connected to an
Ethernet or BACnet MS/TP network with other System controllers or is a single
head-end controller for a network of Subnet controllers.
Subnet - Configures the controller as a Subnet level controller on a Subnet of similar
controllers. This is the setting when the controller is connected to a BACnet MS/TP
network with other Subnet controllers. This makes NET2 capable of LINKnet only.
The DNA jumper comes in the ON position by default. This allows the controller to automatically
configure a BACnet controller address.
Do not remove the jumper unless you are assigning a BACnet controller number through
software.
Do not confuse the BACnet controller address with the DIP switch address. The BACnet
controller address uniquely identifies the device on the entire network; the DIP switch address
uniquely identifies the device on the local MSTP segment.
Refer to the DNA section of the ORCAview Technical Reference Manual for more information on
DNA.
Controller Addressing
The DIP Switch is a set of binary switches. Each individual DIP switch represents a unique
value, which forms the controller address when added together.
To set the address, simply move the switches that add up to the controllers desired address
to the ON position.
Example: If the controller is to be address 5 on the network, set the switch numbered 4 and
the switch numbered 1 (4+1 = 5) to the On position.
Note: Each controller on the same MS/TP segment must have a unique DIP switch address.
Controller Configuration
DAC controllers do not have jumpers to configure the controller type. These controllers are considered to
be Application controllers.
In general, DAC-E controllers do not have a DNA jumper and can only be software addressed.
Some DAC-E controllers prior to revision 3.5 may come with a DNA jumper, however this jumper is not
relevant on these DAC-E controllers.
Note: The network numbers default to 19999 for Ethernet. This should be manually adjusted to match the
network number that the device is being integrated into.
Controller Addressing
The controller DIP switch address needs to be selected before power is applied to prevent network
conflicts and provide a predicable BACnet address to easily identify the controller in the network tree.
If no DIP switch position is selected, the controller will use its default manufacturing address of 1601. If
DIP switch position is changed, the DAC-Es calculate their new BACnet address on first power up.
The format of the calculated address defaults to 2,DSx,xxx, where DS is the DIP switch setting and x,xxx
is derived from the ethernet MAC address (see the example below).
Example:
A DAC-E controller is given a DIP switch position of 1 and its Ethernet MAC address is
00-40-AE-01-16-E9.
The calculated BACnet device number on start up will be 2011401. The key is that the device can be
identified by the dip switch setting, shown in bold.

During the address calculation, the last 3 HEX digits of the Ethernet MAC address
(01-16-E9) is converted to decimal and the most significant digit is dropped. This results
DIP switch in the number 1401.

position It is not important to know how the number is derived from the ethernet mac address,
only to understand that since this is unique for each ethernet device that it will never be
the same number.
The device number can now be changed manually as required for the specific site.
General Wiring
All wiring must conform to NEC and local codes and regulations. Use earth ground isolating step-down
Class 2 transformers. Do not use autotransformers. Determine supply transformer rating by summing total
VA of product and output loads.
CAUTION Risk of electric shock or fire. More than one disconnect switch may be required to
de-energize the equipment before servicing.

All terminals are acceptable for Class 2 circuit connections only.
Use copper conductors only.
A single transformer may be used to power multiple controllers and/or auxiliary field devices (actuators,
etc) provided the following conditions are met:
• All devices connected to a single transformer MUST be half wave rectified. Mixing power between
half wave and full wave rectified devices will damage both the transformer and connected
equipment. If present, see below for a list of full and half wave devices.
• The transformer is properly sized, including line losses for the total VA requirements.
• Each controller is grounded as shown in the diagram below. This is important to protect equipment
and ensure a common ground reference for RS-485 communication.
• The transformer secondary is fused for its maximum rated load (4A max for Class 2 circuits).
CAUTION Make sure to ground the controller using the ground lug that is available on the controller.
The controller uses the ground lug to establish a common reference for communications. If the controller
is not grounded then communication problems may occur.
• The proper specified cabling must be used to ensure reliable communications. (22−24 AWG
twisted pair, 100−120 ohms impedance, 17 pF/ft or lower capacitance, with a braided or aluminum
foil shield.)
• Controllers must be wired together in a daisy-chain fashion. Attempting to connect them using a
starred or bus configuration causes problems on the network.
• Networks with a total length greater than 1200 m (4000 ft) or with more than 64 controllers require
a DZNR-768 repeater.
• LINKnet networks that have only 1−2 controllers and have less than 30.5 m (100 ft) of cable length
do not require network terminators (TRM-768).
Input Configuration
The input must be configured to accept the signal that is emitted by the input device.
Place the jumper for each input in the correct location on the Input Type Selector Block.

Externally Powered Actuator
An auxiliary transformer can be connected to the APWR and GND terminals to provide power to an
Actuator,as shown below .
Note that due to Class II limitations, the APWR can not handle more than 100VA.
Status Indicators
LED Function Description
This yellow LED turns on to indicate that the
