to locate information
I. INTRODUCTION
II. CONTENT
The Internet
The Internet is often called the Information Superhighway, a global network communication of
computer networks and other electronic devices. With the Internet, it's possible to access almost
any information, communicate with anyone else in the world.
1
There is a vast of information on the Internet. Through search engine, makes this information
easier to find. For example, if you are looking for a weather updates, all you have to do is type
the keyword “weather”, and the search engine will look for relevant websites.
Some of the most popular include Google, Yahoo!, and Bing.
Email
Short for electronic mail, email is a way to send and receive messages across the Internet.
You must have your own email account, usually called an email address. This is because you'll
need an email address to do just about anything online, from online banking to creating a
Facebook account, upload videos on YouTube, and other online activities.
The URL
Access to web pages may be accomplished by entering an Internet address called URL. URL is
the short form for Uniform Resource Locator, a website URL is the location of a specific
website, page, or file on the Internet.
Web Browser
To access the World Wide Web,
you must use a Web browser, such a
Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google
Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari.
A web browser, or simply "browser," is
an application used to access and
view websites. The primary function of a
web browser is to deliver HTML, the code
used to design or "mark up" webpages.
Each time a browser loads a web page, it
processes the HTML, which may include
text, links, and references to images and
other items, such as cascading style
sheets and JavaScript functions. The browser processes these items, then renders them in the
browser window.
The browser also stores information such as HTTP Cookies. These are small bits of
data stored as text files. Websites use those small bits of data to keep track of users and
enable user-specific features.
HTML
Stands for "Hypertext Markup Language." HTML is the language used to create webpages.
HyperText is the method by which you move around on the web — by clicking on special
text called hyperlinks which bring you to the next page. The fact that it is hyper just
2
means it is not linear — i.e. you can go to any place on the Internet whenever you want
by clicking on links — there is no set order to do things in.
Markup is what HTML tags do to the text inside them. They mark it as a certain type of
text (italicised text, for example).
HTML is a Language, as it has code-words and syntax like any other language.
ISP
An Internet service provider (ISP) is a company that provides customers with Internet access,
(GLOBE, PLDT, SMART, CONVERGE ICT, etc). Data may be transmitted using several
technologies, including dial-up, DSL, cable modem, wireless or dedicated high-speed
interconnects. Today, ISPs are usually cable companies or mobile phone companies that offer
Internet subscriptions in addition to TV or mobile communications services. An Internet service
provider is also known as an Internet access provider (IAP).

Cookies can be divided into two major categories.
Session cookies stay on a browser and retain your information until it is closes. When a new
browser window is opened, the same user is treated as a new visitor and must input their login
credentials. Persistent cookies have a designated lifespan and remain in a browser until the
period elapses or the cookie is manually deleted. Websites that use persistent cookies will
remember users even after they close a browser. Persistent cookies enable features such as
persistent shopping carts, which retain products added to cart between sessions.
