Let me introduce you to our actors.
Narrator introduces kids with names and the character they are playing
Play Starts:
Narrator2: We pray to Lord Ganesha before anything auspicious but do you
know how he got his elephant head? Well, let me tell you.
Once upon a time, high up in the Himalayas, goddess Parvati lived with her
husband Shiva. One day, she sat down to make a sculpture of a boy. She
moulded the clay and made a cute little boy. She looked at this chubby boy
and was very happy with her creation. So, she decided to give it life, and this
is how her son Ganesha came into being.
Parvati: My dear son, I am very happy to have you with me
Ganesh: I am fortunate to have a mother like you. I will always obey you and
do anything for you.
Parvati: In that case, I am going for a bath. Please guard the door and do not
let any strangers in.
Narrator3: Lord Shiva, who was meditating on Himalayas decided to come
back home. Little Ganesha had never seen Shiva, as he was just born. So
when he saw a large man, all blue come up to the spot, Ganesha tried to stop
that stranger.
Ganesha: (yelled) “Stop!”
Shiva : “How dare you? I, am Shiva and this is my home”
Ganesha : I don’t care who you are. My mother told me not to let anyone in.
Shiva: Listen to me you arrogant boy. If you don’t move, I will kill you
Narrator4: With that, Lord Shiva raised his Trishul and swiped off little
Ganesha’s head.
Narrator 4: Hearing the noise, Parvati came running out of the hut and
shrieked
Parvati: “What have you done to our son? I made him out of the earth, with
such love! And you have gone and chopped his head off?”
Narrator 4: Shiva immediately felt remorse and tried to mend his folly
Shiva: Parvati, I promise you that I would find a suitable head for our little
boy and make him alive.
Narrator 4: So, off he went into the forest searching.
Shiva: Parvati, I could only find the head of an elephant, which I will fix on
Ganesha.
Narrator 5: After fixing the head and putting him back to lifeHe then patted
Ganesha and told him how proud he was of him, for fearlessly obeying
mother’s orders and gave blessings of prosperity and intelligence.
Since then, I’ve had an elephant head and I am prayed all over the globe as an
elephant God.
