School Updates – Year 11

Dear WSD Community,
I would like to start my letter this month by saying ‘Well done!’ to all students for working so hard towards their mock
exams. We have now got the results for all students and will be sharing the with students in an assembly next week. These
results should be the catalyst for one final push for students over the next few months in preparation for the real thing. I
have attached the summer exam timetable to the end of this letter; please ask you child to take careful note of when
each of their exams are and plan their revision timetable accordingly.
I am also pleased to announce that, currently, students in all year groups are taking part in our House Cup Competition.
Running from Monday 28th February to Friday 25th March 2022, students will be competing for their House against each
other to win the WSD House Cup. Students can gain points towards their House total in a number of ways, which are
explained below:
Over the coming weeks, there will be more opportunities for students to participate in competitions to earn points for
their House – do ask your child for more information during this time to find out about the exciting opportunities we are
presenting them. Finally, I would like to say ‘Good luck!’ to all our students – I am really excited to see who wins our first
WSD House Cup Competition!
iGCSE exams updates
• Mock exam results will be available on the parent portal by the end of next week; students will be receiving them in
an assembly next week.
• The exam timetable for the iGCSE exams is at the end of this letter. It is vital that you and your child go through the
timetable and highlight each of the exams that they will be taking. From this, your child should write a revision
timetable starting from this weekend all the way up to their final exam.
• Students are expected to attend school right up to the day of their final exam. We will be running a bespoke timetable
with extended revision classes for upcoming exams, so it is vital that students attend every day to ensure they are
fully prepared for each exam. I will be sharing this timetable in the next few weeks. ‘Study leave’ will not be granted
unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Upcoming Events/Dates
• We will be holding our annual Student-Led Conference on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th March 2022. On these days,
the school will be closed to students and during this time, each student will book a 10-15 minute slot with you and
their Tutor to present their reflections on their learning so far this year.
Thank you to students and families who have been working hard to ensure their e-portfolio is complete ahead of the
SLC days. In order to book an appointment, your child’s Tutor will be contacting you next week but, in the meantime,

• On Monday 14th March we will be holding a parent and student information evening to discuss the options process
for choosing Year 12 subjects. We will also take this opportunity to discuss the process for the summer examinations.
A look at learning this week…
Year 11
This week, WSD has hosted colleagues from across the GEMS Network, who have conducted an ‘Internal Review’ of
the school. The purpose of this review was to give the school some feedback, from our trusted colleagues, on what we
are doing well and what we can do to improve even further. While we cannot yet share with you all the highlights of
this review, we are very pleased with the initial feedback we have received.
In particular, student engagement and behaviour was seen as a real strength and I am really pleased to say that Year
11 students came across positively in all observations. Well done to our students and staff!
