Introductions: Carolina Roberts-Santana

by Carolina Roberts-Santana (Instructor) - Wednesday, 31 August 2022, 11:03 PM

Welcome Learners!

I’m Dr. Roberts-Santana, your instructor for HS3814-01 Community Health. I am looking forward to learning with you over the next
nine weeks! Please refer to my profile if you want to get to know me better. Like you, I was an online learner once; therefore, I will
share those experiences in our discussion assignments and journals.

To be successful in this course:

1. Set a regular time, place, and plan to complete your work. Read the learning guide as early as possible to ensure you
submit all required assignments. Remember you have up to one week to complete your assignments, and there is a no late
work policy. Make sure you time your submission correctly per the UoPeople clock and be on time.
2. Review the plagiarism and academy honesty policies. At this level I want you to make sure you are using research to
validate your thoughts. This means that you are still answering the questions as you consider them to be true, but you are
also relying on your textbook and other sources to validate your response.
3. Review the General Code of Conduct. Remember that we are here to learn as a group. Please try your best to keep
discussions professional and respectful. For many of us, this information is new, and the goal is to have you think critically
about what you are learning.
4. Ask questions (as many as you need to). Sometimes we are overwhelmed by the amount of work we have, so feel free to
send me a message through the Moodle platform or an email ([email protected]) if you have any
questions about a specific assignment. I am here to help you succeed, so don’t feel afraid to reach out.

Now take the opportunity to introduce yourself. I would love to learn more about you. Primarily answer the following questions:

1. What is your name?

2. Where do you live?

3. What do you plan to do with your health science degree?

4. What would you like others to know about you?

Make it a great course!

Hi Doctor Robert’s-Santana

My name is Faith, I am from Baltimore, MD, but I’ve lived in Florida the last 3+ years to obtain my JD degree and law license.

I worked in a health law firm and I like the speciality around health law and compliance. I took this course to really just have a
foundational ground to understanding “health” overall. Rather, I’ve actually gained much more and have unfortunately learned
how social ideologies play into our personal health, and the policies made behind these social and cultural constructs. It’s
opened my mind to understand that health isn’t black and white, and I know that having this education will help me in
pursuing my legal career - or any route I plan to take.

I would tell others about me that I have hobbies that peak my interest - where I can learn something. So one of my hobbies is
reading tarot cards. I’ve done it for a long time now. I truly enjoy learning new things. Recently, I’ve been studying physics (I
love space), and I’ve been re-learning to speak Hebrew. My brain sometimes is hard to turn off.

Anyway, I graduated law school in May of this year. I sat for the state bar exam and MBE exam in July & then the ethics exam
earlier in August. Partly why I want to expand on my skills and education - particularly in this area Is a way not yo rely on the
bar exam as a determinant to my future. I like having all opportunities and options in my sights.

Anyway, sorry for rambling. What kind of doctor are you or what did you study? Niche? Any life advice?

Thank you & looking forward to this term!

Nice meeting you!

Hi Faith,

Welcome to the class. Congratulations on all your achievements. I love to learn too. You should check out the Clifton
Strength finder assessment. These tell you what your strengths are so you can capitalize on them. My Strengths are:
Deliberative, Learner, Intellection, Relator and Analytical. Having both the learner and intellection strengths push me to be
very proactive. I have am an international medical professional. I got my MD 14 years ago. Also, I have a Doctorate in
Health Science from MCPHS in Boston. The only advice I have is a quote I use from Alia Bhatt : Whatever you do, do with
determination. You have one life to live; do your work with passion and give your best. Whether you want to be a chef,
doctor, actor, or a mother, be passionate to get the best result. It sounds like you are already doing that. Looking forward
to learning from you in this class.
