Rising demand for oil has been noticed due to the fact that it remains the world’s most powerful source of energy. In conventional
resources, the recovered volumes from the original oil in place are around 30%. Therefore, the development of more advanced
techniques to recover additional oil is required in order to meet energy demands. A process for upgrading heavy crude oil production
involves adding a diluent, or solvent, which is a light hydrocarbon to reduce the Viscosity and Specific gravity of the crude oil being
processed. This upgrades the crude and enhances the amount recovered for processing at a refinery.
