AkzoNobel India’s decorative paints business manufactures
the Dulux brand of paints for interior and exterior decoration
and protection as well as products for surface preparation and
wood care. Our emphasis is on quality, high performance and
aesthetics. Our focus is on longevity, washability and stain
resistance, anti-colour fading, water proofing, quicker & easier
applicability, faster drying time, low VOC and odour, and so
on. Our paints are also free from any added lead, mercury or
chromium compounds, underlining the importance that
AkzoNobel gives to caring for the environment. We have been
amongst the first in the Indian paint industry to pioneer
responsible manufacturing. Dulux in India has manufacturing
sites, sales offices and a product distribution network, which
spans the length and breadth of the country.
Present in India for over 100 years and a significant player in the
Paints industry. In 2008, AkzoNobel N.V. became owner of the
entire equity share capital of Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd., by
virtue of which the Company became a member of the AkzoNobel
Group. Dulux is its most popular brand of its Decorative coatings
business while the Performance Coatings business provides
solutions to many industries.

The Dulux range of products are manufactured according to

international specifications at our state-of-the-art manufacturing
plants at Thane, Mohali, Gwalior and Hyderabad. Dulux has been
awarded 2014’s ‘Superbrand’ in the paints category. It has also

SURFACE PREPARATION
As with interior painting, surface preparation is a very important activity that will
directly affect the end result of your painting exercise. It is not only critical in
getting good results; it actually helps save time and makes the painting exercise
economical.
• Patching cracks - Dig out the cracks and fill them with plaster or
putty mixture. When dry, smooth the surface with the help of a 220
grade sanding paper.
• Patching holes – Dig out the holes a little to remove loose material
and patch up all the holes using plaster, putty or lightweight spackle.
• After all scrapping and patching it is advisable to sand the entire
surface. An 80 grit sandpaper would be ideal. Take care to start
sanding only when all the patching has dried.
• Wash the whole house with water to remove dirt, grease or any loose
flaking paint.
• Start the painting exercise only when the wall is completely dry.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Freshly plastered surfaces must be allowed to cure completely for at least 12
weeks as per recommendation. Brush with a wire/stiff coir brush, followed by
water jetting if required to ensure surface is thoroughly clean, dry and free from
all loose dirt, chalk, grease, fungi, algae and flaking paint. Dry sanding, flame
cutting and/or welding of the dry paint film may give rise to dust and/or
hazardous fumes. Wet sanding should be used wherever possible. If exposure
cannot be avoided by the provision of local exhaust ventilation, suitable
respiratory protective equipment should be used.
• For stubborn chalkiness on surface, use DWS Alkali Bloc Primer
• For severe algae or fungus problems use Dulux Aquatech Pre-Treatment coat
• For minor cracks and defects use Dulux Aquatech Range of crack fillers or
cement and sand mixture in the ratio 1:3. Avoid application of putty.
• Dulux Weathershield Range should not be applied to the surfaces or
substrates which are exposed to continuous seepage or dampness.

General Priming coat Application:

Application of putty is not recommended. For best performance apply one
self-priming coat or one coat of Dulux Exterior Acrylic Primer or Dulux
Weathershield Alkali Bloc Primer at 100% dilution for efflorescence prone
surfaces.

Dulux Aquatech Waterbloc 2K
Dulux Aquatech Waterblock 2K is a two component acrylic cementitious and
flexible high performance waterproof coating. It provides excellent pore sealing
and waterproofing property. The special grade binder used in Dulux Aquatech
Waterblock 2K provides good flexibility and excellent resistance to ingress of

ENAMELS
STANDARD PAINTING PROCESS - METAL
Metal surfaces exposed of variations in temperature and moisture tend to rust
and wear out with time. It is strongly advised to paint the surfaces to protect
and prolong the life of the surface. It is essential that the paint system must
completely isolate air and water contact to the metal surface.

Genral preparation
Thoroughly inspect to identify areas of rusts, damage, stains etc to be taken
care of in the painting process.

• Cover the floor with newspapers or plastic near the surface to be painted to
avoid unnecessary splatter on floors and walls.
• Ensure that the metal surface is clean and dry.
• The painting should be executed in a place that is well ventilated.

Surface preparation
It is strongly recommended that metal surfaces should not be painted without
proper surface preparation. Paint does not stay on galvanized steel, tin or
aluminium if the surface is not adequately cleaned and prepared.

• Remove traces of oil and grease by cleaning with mineral spirits.

• Any rust should be completely removed with Rust Remover paint.
• If required use a paste filler to correct dents and surface imperfections.
• Rough up the surface with coarse grade sandpaper or a wire brush.
Wipe down with a damp cloth or sponge to remove all traces of dust.

masked properly

sanded off
