Baya Q1 W4 D1 Ports Cable

The document discusses computer ports and cables. It defines what ports and cables are used for in connecting computers to peripheral devices. It then provides a table that lists common computer ports and cables, describing the characteristics and uses of each. The activity asks students to create a short video demonstrating and explaining the different computer ports and cables. It provides a rubric to evaluate the videos.

MODULE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE 1

First Quarter/ Week 4/ Day 1

OBJECTIVE
At the end of this module, you are expected to differentiate the ports and cables used in the system
unit.

In computer hardware, a port serves as an interface

LESSON between the computer and other peripheral devices. In computer
terms, a port generally refers to the part of a computing device
PORTS AND CABLES IN available for connection to peripherals such as input and output
COMPUTER SYSTEM UNIT devices. Computer ports have many uses, to connect a
monitor, webcam, speaker or other peripheral devices.
On the physical layer, a computer port is a specialized outlet on a piece of equipment to which
a plug or cable connects. Electronically, the several conductors where the port and cable contacts connect,
provide a method to transfer signals between devices.

COMPUTER PARTS CABLES PORTS

1. Parallel- use to connect older printer

2. Video Graphics Array (VGA)- to connect

computer to other device like projector

3. Serial- use for external modem like serial

mouse or older cameras

4. Universal Serial Bus (USB)- use for latest

model of peripheral devices like printer,
mouse.

5. PS2- use to connect devices like mouse

and keyboard to the computer.

6. Power-use to for power connection

7. S-Video-use to connect device like audio

with video presentation

8. Audio-use as a pathway for audio signals

9. Local Area Network (LAN)-for the internet

An electronic connector is an electro-mechanical device whose purpose is to quickly and easily

disconnect or interrupt a circuit path. Cables come in a variety of sizes, shapes, complexities and quality levels.
Their function dictates their design and different features are added to adjust the ease of connection, mating
type, durability, insulation between pins.

Connector/Cables Port
A connector is the unique end of a plug, jack, or The port has either holes or a slot that matches the
the edge of a card that connects into a port plug or card being connected into the port.
