CHAPTER 3:
INTERNET OF THINGS
3.1 INTRODUCTION:
During the last few years, Internet of Things (IoT) devices have started becoming a more and more
important component in our daily lives. Some common applications for IoT devices are:
1. Smart Home
2. Wearable’s
3. Autonomous vehicles
4. Smart cities
5. Smart Retail
"The Internet of things is the extension of Internet connectivity into physical devices and everyday
objects. Embedded with electronics, Internet connectivity, and other forms of hardware, these devices
can communicate and interact with others over the Internet, and they can be remotely monitored and
controlled".
One of the most interesting characteristics of IoT devices is that they are able to produce large amounts
of data. This can be particularly used in applications such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine
Learning. Most of IoT devices can produce in fact a great variety of Time Series data which are of
huge interest in Artificial Intelligence [5]. According to a study carried out by Global Data, the IoT
market is projected to reach $318bn new worth by 2023.
The Internet of Things describes the network of physical objects “things” that are embedded with
sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other
devices and systems over the internet.
In short, the Internet of Things refers to the rapidly growing network of connected objects that are able
to collect and exchange data in real time using embedded sensors. Thermostats, cars, lights,
refrigerators, and more appliances can all be connected to the IoT.
Google Cloud is currently one of the main Cloud solutions provider on the market. Some of the
packages offered by Google Cloud for IoT implementations are:
1. Cloud IoT Core: is used to set up the device(s) and establish a secure connection between them.
2. Cloud Machine Learning Engine: it allows users to create Machine Learning models from the
data gathered by the IoT devices in order to increase and monitor performances.
3. Cloud Pub/Sub: provides real time analytics of the IoT devices.
Microsoft Azure is another really important cloud services provider. Azure is able to deliver both pre-
customized and fully customizable solutions [6]. In this way, Azure is able to provide solutions for
both beginners and experts in IoT. Microsoft Azure enables to easily scale IoT systems to include
devices from different manufacturers and also provides analytics and Machine Learning services
support.
AWS is one of the most popular solutions for cloud based services. AWS can enable to perform IoT
projects from end to end and making use of the four following packages:
1. AWS IoT Core: AWS IoT core is the basic package which can be used to set up IoT devices.
Using IoT Core wecan integrate different devices to communicate each other over a secured
connection making possible toexchange data through cloud storage.
2. AWS IoT Analytics: AWS IoT Analytics is used to process and analyse all the data produced by
IoT devices. Once allthe data is stored using a semi-structured format it can be then used for Machine
Learning purposes.
3. AWS IoT Device Defender: AWS IoT Device Defender is used to construct and personalize the
security mechanisms of IoT devices such as choosing device authentication and data encryption.
4. AWS IoT Device Management: AWS IoT Device Management enables to easily integrate new
IoT devices to an environment andmonitor/update their functionalities.
Cloud computing is shown in figure 3.2. It has various services like application, service and
infrastructure.
CHAPTER 4:
In the course of the Internship done in Gustovalley Technovations, the training has been provided for
all for all the concepts of technologies involved in Industry 4.0. During the Internship period, the
Project was done on “IOT based Smart Car Parking System”, and has successfully completed the
project under the mentorship of “Ejaz Ahmed” from Gustovalley Technovations.
Nowadays, finding an available parking space can be considered as time and fuel consuming in
metropolitan cities. This project explains the architecture and design of Smart car parking based on
Arduino. Our system design is used to eliminate unnecessary time conception to find an empty park
space depending on the number of unoccupied slots in the parking area and if it does not find an empty
slot in parking area the barrier will not open and display the message that parking is full. Using this
system, we also save more than 20-30% of fuel wastage in search of car parking. Smart car parking
project aims at providing confusion free and easy parking [8]. This project helps the drivers of the cars
topark their vehicles with minimum wastage of time with accurate information of the availability of the
space to park. It includes an Arduino Uno as the microcontroller unit to which the servo motors, LCD
display and IR Proximity sensors are interfaced. The LCD displays the availability of the space, the
ultrasonic sensors keeps the check of the number of cars entering and exiting the parking space. The IR
sensors detect the availability of the parking space.

for the precise control of angular position. LCD for displaying the values.
Circuit Diagram:
Fig 4.2 shows the circuit diagram where all the connections are done according to the above
figure and final given to the power supply [7].IR sensors are inserted in each and every slot of car
parking area to detect the obstacle and at the initial stag the servo motor is used as rotatory actuators
where the entry and exit of car takes place, it will open only when the slots are empty. Further the IR
sensor via Arduino will notify the display on LCD depending on the cars in the slots as empty or fill
so, by lookingat LCD itself we can decide to enter or exit.
Here in Fig 4.3 the barrier will open and cars will enter via entry gate and according to the IR sensor
cars get fill in the slots.
Fig 4.4 shows working flow diagram here all the slots are filled therefore, the barrier will not open and
shows garage is filled further no more cars can enter.
