SCIENCE Task1

Salome C. Arbuyes is enrolled in the Bachelor of Elementary Education program. In her reflections on science, she summarizes the key facets of science in less than 3 sentences for each: Science encompasses both a broad body of accumulated knowledge and the process of acquiring new knowledge through objective evidence. Science also involves skills like observation, classification, and prediction that are used to understand nature. Finally, science is an intellectual, social, and problem-solving activity carried out globally to build explanations of the natural world through reasoning and the scientific process.

Facets of Science Insights and Reflection

Science as a broad body of Knowledge Science is broad and can be thought of
as both, body of knowledge- the
things we already know or discovered.
And the process of acquiring new
knowledge- it is through observation
and experimentation (testing and
hypothesizing). Thus, scientist use
objective evidence over subjective
evidence to reach a logical conclusion.
Science as a set of skills Science includes skills that every
individual could use in each step of
his life when he/she study and
investigate. Observing, classifying,
communicating, measuring, inferring
and predicting are the skills that
scientists use in understanding the
nature of science.
Science as an intellectual activity Science is an intellectual activity
carried on by humans that is designed
to discover information about the
natural world in which humans live
and to discover the ways in which this
information can be organized into
meaningful patterns. Science helps us
to be intellectually active and to be a
critical thinker through observations
and experimentations.
Science as a social activity Science relies on facts with evidence
thus it is also a social activity as to
which scientists rely on each other
(society) for results, samples,
techniques, and many other things.
Science as a Problem-Solving activity Science is concerned with gathering
and comprehending physical world
observations. That understanding
alone will not solve any problems.
Individuals must act on their
understanding in order for it to help
solve problems. For example, studies
have shown that avoiding nicotine can
reduce a risk of lung cancer.
Science as a career Science is a career. It is a growing
field with many opportunities for
future growth and development. It will
prepare you for a career full of
opportunity and discovery. You will
be able to think critically, analyze, and
assess a problem or situation as a
result of scientific learning.
Science as a global human endeavor Through Science, Humans strive to
comprehend and explain the natural
world. It includes building
explanations based on data, and as
new data becomes available, science
understanding might change.
Science as a process. Scientific ideas are developed through
reasoning. Science is a process
because the Ideas or hypothesis needs
to be proven. But scientific ideas
change over time as new information
is discovered.s
