Research Premarital Sex Tentative22222

1) Research has found that pre-marital sex among teenagers can be caused by more liberal attitudes, peer pressure, dating, and weak family control. Having close family relationships and moderate parental control may help reduce pre-marital sex. 2) Theories suggest that a person's intention to engage in a behavior like pre-marital sex is influenced by their attitude towards it and their perception of social norms. Beliefs about consequences and what others think impact these attitudes and perceptions. 3) It is important for teenagers to learn responsibility and not treat sex casually if they choose to be sexually active before marriage to avoid negative consequences. Education can help prevent pre-marital sex and promote healthy decision making.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

The new industrial society has made a big impact on the changes of human’s way of thinking.

Compared before for about 30 years ago, people’s lifestyle nowadays is more direct to self-

satisfaction. In the 70’s, a lot of people were reluctant to fulfill their own desires because they

were afraid of the judgments which came from the close- minded generations. Time flies and

things have changed. In the 21st century have become to emphasize on the “self” and lift off

the weight of society’s judgments. As people start to move toward their satisfaction, they are

more open to what is used to be considered as taboo such as premarital sex.

Premarital sex is making a sexual intercourse of male and female who are unmarried.

Numbers of not yet marriageable age engage to this activity than adults. Sexual activity has

always been a basic need to human beings. Not only it is for human’s reproduction, sexual

life is also a considerate factor to predict the happiness of one’s life. Pre-marital sex tends to

be quite a disturbing issue these days especially among teenagers. The education ministry

believes that having sex education to be taught in schools would be a good awakening for

students especially teenagers. The researchers develop a study that focuses on the students of

Lanao del Norte National Comprehensive High School, who engages to Pre-marital sex. The

researchers wants to know how does it affects the life of a student and why did they engage to

it. Knowing the cause and effect, also the problem-solution of this study helps the student to

know more about its negativity to young people.

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to (Ronquillo, 2017) pregnancy among teenagers is a rather shocking if not

appalling thing to hear. It is even more serious if the one who got pregnant is a relative. If it is

any indication, this is the result of premarital sex among teenagers. Statistical data show that

a relatively large percentage of girls aged between 15 (or even much younger) to 19 years old

get pregnant every year. There are several factors that explain this alarming trend.

Glenn, L & Castle, M (2016) stated that though the causes of teenage sexual intercourse are

plentiful, and the effects are scary to think of, there are also many ways to help prevent

teenagers from engaging in sex before they are ready. Often, a supportive family with healthy

communication can lead teens away from risky behavior. Candid conversations about the

consequences of sex are beneficial and education in general, both at home and at school, can

keep teens from sexual intercourse. Interventions programs for at-risk teens are also known to

be beneficial.

Director Juan Perez III (2017) stated that one out of three girls and boys who are 15 to 19

years of age have engaged in premarital sex. He further pointed out that boys do it for the

sexual act while girls do it for love. Their trysts occur mostly at home and in dormitories,

often without protection against pregnancy or communicable diseases.

Nuela Orden Frias (2000) stated that logistic regression analysis showed that for as long as

the adolescent has more liberal attitude, is involved in high-risk behavior and goes out to

date, he/she is at higher risk to PMS. In addition, the socializing agents that significantly

impacts on the PMS involvement of the respondents, in order of importance, are the peer

group, the family and the church. Among these, however, association with a sexually
experienced friend figured out as the strongest risk factor to PMS. Its impact even becomes

more significant when familial control over the young weakens.

According to Elliston (2017) promiscuity is seen as free love, where you can just meet

someone and starting to fall in love with them. With this definition, it might be easier for

some to understand it, as having freedom. It can also be recognized as having recreational

sex, having sex just for fun. When the word fun comes with anything, it will be seen as

attractive and easy going. Elliston has created a definition himself that better defined

promiscuity. “Promiscuity is defined as sex with a series of other adults not directly related

through marriage and with no commitments; no promises of affection, sexual exclusivity in

future”.

Farideh Khalaj Abadi Farahani (2016) stated that good family relationships may reduce the

likelihood that youth will engage in premarital sex, possibly by fostering parent-child

closeness. Moderate parental control may discourage premarital relationships more

effectively than lesser or greater degrees of control.

According to the theory of reasoned action, a decision to engage in a behavior (e.g., to have

sex) is directly predicted by an individual's intention to perform the behavior. Intention, in

turn, is a function of two factors: the individual's attitude toward the behavior (how desirable

the behavior seems to me), and the individual's perception of general social norms regarding

the behavior (what others think I should do). Both attitudes and norms are formed on the

basis of sets of beliefs: beliefs about the consequences of performing the behavior (e.g., I will

get pregnant), and beliefs about how significant others feel about the individual performing

the behavior.(Rogers,M.,et al).

Many young children today engage in premarital sex, it is an essential for them to learn how

to be responsible and that they must not play around with sex. Teens who are affected by their
curiosity are usually the victims of this trend. Couples must learn how to control their

showing of affection with one another, because they can’t just simply seal their relationship

by having sex (Problem Solution: Teenage Premarital Sex, 2013).

3.2 Data Gathering Process

The researchers made a study of selected teenagers in their school and community. The study

was then conducted in the middle of the month of January 2019. The researchers gave the

questionnaires or documents that ask the same questions of all individuals in the sample. The

study also consists of oral questions by the interviewer and oral responses by the research

participants. Lastly, the researchers surveyed and collected the data from the participants in a

sample about their characteristics, experiences, and opinion in order to generalize the findings

to a population that sample is intended to represent.

3.3 Research Instruments

The instrument used in the study was a researcher-made questionnaire checklist to gather the

needed data for the study. The draft of the questionnaire was consists and based on the

researcher’s readings, previous studies, curiousity, published and unpublished thesis, also

opinions. Open-minded options were provided to accommodate to free formatted views

related to premarital sex. In this way, the instrument is authorized to obtain valid responses of

the students.

3.4 Treatment of Data

The responses made by the teenagers describing their situation and effects of premarital sex

were presented. For instance, sex, age, educational attainment, age when first engaging to

premarital sex. In providing overall picture of the effects of premarital sex in teenager,

summary presentations will also presented.
