Physical Education (Week 2)
Performance Task:
Sets FITT Goals Based on Training Principles to Achieve and/or Maintain HRF
Activity 1: I am confident now!
Direction: Make an advocacy campaign about playing Arnis.
One of the safest ways to keep yourself safe is to learn self-defense.
Consider practicing our own martial art, arnis, instead of kung fu or another
foreign martial art. Arnis, also known as Kali and Eskrima, is a western
martial art that fights with sticks, bladed blades, knives, and makeshift
weapons. Hand-to-hand fighting, wrestling, joint locks, and arms disarming
techniques are all included. Although the art emphasizes firearms, some
schools emphasize hand-to-hand combat.
Social Interaction
When you practice arnis, you get to know and socialize with a lot of
new people. As arnis becomes more mainstream, an increasing number
of people choose to enroll in arnis schools and courses.
Most eskrima schools teach their students not only the art of eskrima,
but also the importance of respect and family. All has the opportunity
to bond while studying martial arts at the same time.
Good Exercise
Want a good workout? Arnis is an excellent aerobic and reflex
workout. While you will not be moving heavy objects, the movements
and drills will get your heart rate up. It's similar to an aerobics exercise
in that you have to rotate your whole body while having a perfect upper
body workout (yey arm day). You will tone your arms and shoulders by
working on your forearm and hand muscles.
Think Fast
Arnis is more than just drills and hitting your partner's baton. The
exercises are there to help you get used to the assault and counter-
attack movements.
