Reason for studying this program
Since my childhood, I have been enthusiastic about doing innovative things. I was always
searching for the easiest methods to complete any kind of job. I always research machines'
mechanisms and was fascinated by how they work. Therefore, I have wanted to be a
Mechanical Engineer since my childhood. Therefore, I selected math subjects for my GCE
Advanced Level Education and after that, I completed a Higher National Diploma in
Mechanical Engineering at the Sri Lankan Institute of Advanced technological Education
(SLIATE). Therefore, I was able to gain several subjects : thermodynamics and basic
electrical. So I worked as a production engineer as my first job in a medium-level company
in Lanka. after I thought it's better to find an iso standard company to build up my career
path. Within that period I completed my bachelor of degree in Mechanical Engineering at the
University of Wolverhampton. I have more than three years of experience in the relevant
field. Therefore, I am looking to complete my master's in mechanical engineering and gain
more knowledge to do new innovative things as well as build up my professional career path.
So this course 100% matches with my educational background and my desired field.. This is
why I decided to study Mechanical Engineering for my master’s degree.
Reasons for choosing university
Firstly when I was searching for a suitable university in Australia for completing my
master's. After I compared other universities' course structures with Charles Darwin, I
realized that its 100% match my requirements and this program has fully Accreditation of
Engineering Australia. The course structure is directly aligned with industrial requirements.
In the course structure, there are several subjects such as Project Management, Risk and
Reliability, Professional Practice, and Sustainability. These subjects are the most valuable
assets for me to build up my Career path as a future engineer manager. As well I have
already studied machine design subjects and I am familiar with solid work and Auto-Cad
Software. So I think machine Design and system design subjects will be more important for
me to boost my machine design knowledge apart from that I could be able to do more
innovation. Biomedical Engineering subject is a new subject I have not learned before. In the
present situation in the world it's most important to give our support to the health sector so I
think I could be able to learn more things by this subject and do more innovative things in
the health care sector. So by considering all factors I could not find a university like Charles

Darwin University for fulfilling my education requirements.
In Addition to this , I found CDU is a top 100 university globally for quality education
Overall, CDU ranks among the world's top 200 universities globally for research and impact
on all SDGs and its course fee also reasonable by comparing other universities and its has a
professional placement for engineering masters’ students and finally I found that Darwin is a
vibrant, multicultural city, home to nearly 140,000 people hailing from close to 60 countries.
With plenty of cultural, sporting, entertainment, accommodation, and travel opportunities.
Moreover ,I mostly prefer to live in a rural area with a natural environment, So I decided that
Darwin is the most suitable place for me
The above-mentioned facts are the reasons why I decided to study in Charles Darwin
University. Reasons for choosing university. Firstly, when I was searching for a suitable
university in Australia to pursue a Master credential, I compared other universities' course
structures and modules with the structure of Charles Darwin, I realized that matches 100%
with my requirement and this program has fully Accreditation of Engineering Australia. The

Other than the above mentioned features, I found out that CDU is a top 100 university
globally for quality education Overall, CDU ranks among the world's top 200 universities

Reason to studying this degree in Australia
After I decided to study Engineering for my masters, I decided to study it in a western
country because their education system is far better than Sri Lanka. UK and Australia came
into my mind because those two countries are two of the best countries to study as an
international student.Later I did research about studying in those two countries. I wrote down
the pros and cons of studying in those two countries. When it comes to cons in England it is
too cold and since I am used to tropical weather it will be hard for me to live in that country.
The next con is that England is far away from my home and air tickets are expensive. It will
take me about a day to travel from Sri Lanka to England or from England to Sri Lanka. So I
selected Australia to continue my masters.
Reasons for choosing Australia over other countries
University of Wolverhampton-master of mechanical engineering practice- Since my plan is to
be an engineer manager in the future I need to study project management but There is no
subject to improve my management knowledge as well they are not 100% granted professional
training. Bolton university-master of UK Its master's program does not have any engineering
accreditation. University of Tasmania-master of professional engineering - not fully accredited
in engineering Australia as well their course fee is high. After completing my master's It's
difficult to find a good job in Sri Lanka. Since my brother-in-law lives in England, they told me
to come to England for my higher education. But I plan to be an engineering manager in Sri
Lanka, therefore, I need to select an engineering accreditation course which fulfills engineering
management theory.
As well I search western countries whether condition. Actually I like to live a topical country
like Sri Lanka. In Northern territory their climate is similar as Sri Lanka therefore Easily I can
adopt the climate change and I think after completing my masters its easy to adopt my country.

How this degree will help shape students future career
After I complete my masters of engineering, I know that I can easily find a Designated
employment in the engineering management field. Now my salary as a maintenance executive
is about Rs 90,000. But as an Engineering Manager, the basic salary is about Rs 5,00000. As
well with an engineering of Australia accreditation I can demand my value as manager. With
my Australian qualification it will be easy for me to climb the corporate ladder and will be easy
to come to a senior position in my job. Australia is one of the best countries in the world for
higher education and there are lots of international students currently studying in Australia.
According to my point of view, the Australian Education System encourages students to be
more independent, creative and innovative. Since I have experience in Sri Lanka and Australia,
I know that Australia has the best education system and I like to study in that system again. I
believe that completing my Masters degree in Australia will help me to open many pathways to
my future studies and career.
How is this study relevant to students background
Concluding my Secondary Education, the Higher National Diploma in Engineering which I
have gained from the SLIATE, Sri Lanka, is highly coop up with the Master Program which I
am going to purse in the Charles Darwin University Australia. The HNDEN, which I have
completed, had 46 modules which spread from the basics of Engineering to the complex. I
believe that I am fortunate enough to be part of the engineering field starting from my
undergraduate studies where I have been now elevated to apply for the level of a Master
credential. The subjects which I have learned in my Higher Diploma such as ( mention the
subjects which are similar) are parallel to the modules structured in the Master of Engineering
Program offered by the CDU. I believe that the lack of managerial exposure, which the
HNDEN program consisted of, can be fulfilled by following the CDU offered Master of
Engineering program. The Undergraduate studies which I have pursued the Bachelor of
9 | Page
Engineering(Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton had a major relevance to this master
program where modules such as ( mention the subjects which are similar). Apart from the
undergraduate studies I have acquired, my past and present employment has a direct relevance
to the Master of Engineering credential which I am going to pursue in the Charles Darwin
University. My career exposure as a Production Engineer at Udaya Lanka Advanced
Technologies PVT Ltd boosted me to gain more exposure on the Engineering components. The
span of my career history starting from a Production Supervisor to a Maintenance Executive
has driven me so far who I am right now and the exposure which I have been gathering since
2014 being employed for various employers of the Engineering field has paved the way to
select this master program which is exactly admissible. In addition to my former career and
academic relevance, I have also being actively launching my own business (mention the
business and its nature briefly) via social media platform like Facebook *1. Therefore, I
believe that not only my academic and working exposure but also the Entrepreneurship which I
owned suits entirely with the content of the Master Program which I have selected at the CDU,
Australia.
Mentioned about the study gaps.

Sponsorship details
My father, Ranasinghe Arachchige Cisil Stanly Appuhamy will be my main sponsor and my
brother- in – law, Mr. Dayan Fernande will be the secondary sponsor. My father possesses
AUD 67,203 in his savings account and my aunt( Mentioning her name and resident details)
has AUD 27,634 in her Savings and she earns AUD 90,000 plus salary annually.
Intentions of returning to my home country after program completion
As my sole intention is to pursue quality education which will assist me to elevate myself in
both my career and further academics, upon the completion of my course I am returning to
my homeland Sri Lanka. I am having this intention due to many reasons. The first and the
foremost reason is the moral responsibility which I have to take care of my elderly parents.
10 | Page
On the other hand both my brothers and my Brother in Law reside abroad for a long period
of time, this will cost my parents and my spouses’ parents pessimistically as if all their
children left them alone, they will be helpless at their elderly age. Therefore I will defiantly
return to my parents to take care of them. Secondly, as I am leaving my spouse in Sri Lanka
to pursue my higher studies, I have to return to my beloved wife in order to resume our
family life and have kids. She is currently working as a professional beautician and her sole
dream is to have her own business line , opening her own beauty service center in Sri Lanka.
Apart from my family and moral responsibilities, it is undeniable that one must serve his or
her country for what it has given to the individual from birth. I personally believe that it is
my ethical value to serve and aid the corporate economy of my country with the intellect I
have acquired from the Australian Education Qualification.
Declaration
I am looking forward to making the best out of this opportunity and would really appreciate it
if you grant me a Visa to start my degree in Australia. I am confident that the skills,
knowledge and experience I receive in a prestigious Australian university would help me to
sharpen my career for a successful future and contribute to my home country.
Thank you and Kind
regards Yours
faithfully,
Supun Appuhamy
