 INTRODUCTION

Over the past few years, it was believed that the global rubber output was extremely
unstable. India consistently produces 6% more rubber each year than other countries
do. India's rubber business is expanding as its foundations become deeper. India is the
world's largest producer of natural rubber and the third-largest user of the material. The
expansion of the Indian rubber sector is important for the world economy.

India's economy is among the fastest-growing in the world as a result of these causes,
as well as the rapid expansion of the car industry and several big and medium-sized
businesses. Nearly 90% of India's entire production of natural rubber comes from the
main producer of rubber, Kerala. Together, Kerala and Tamil Nadu account for 86% of
the entire land used for rubber plantations.

The report is prepared to take into consideration any industrial product. We have
chosen the Rubber industry. The report includes a brief description of the rubber
industry in India, what exactly rubber is, its various features, and types of rubber. Also,
rubber production and consumption in India are highlighted with statistical illustrations.
Further, the tentative usage of rubber and industrial rubber products is done.

 RUBBER INDUSTRY
What exactly is rubber?

Usually, they just say "rubber" without saying what sort. Although there are several
varieties of rubber, they may all be broadly divided into two categories: natural rubber
(latex produced by plants) and synthetic rubber (made artificially in a chemical plant or
laboratory).

1. Natural Rubber

Natural rubber commonly referred to as gum rubber or Indian rubber, is made

from the milky liquid, or latex, produced by the Hevea Brasiliense's tree. High
tear and tensile strength, resilience, and resistance to abrasion, friction, severe
temperatures, and water swell are a few of the material's main qualities.
Adhesives, flooring and roofing, gloves, insulation, and tyres are a few examples
of common usage.

2. Nitrous Rubber

One of the first synthetic rubber varieties is neoprene, commonly known as

chloroprene. It has an incredibly low sensitivity to burning, corrosion, and
deterioration when compared to natural rubber and other synthetic rubbers. This

 characteristic makes it the ideal starting material for coatings that resist corrosion
and adhesives. It is suitable for use in high-pressure gaskets, belts, window and
door seals, and high-pressure gaskets due to its ability to maintain strong
mechanical qualities throughout a broad temperature range.

3. Sulfated Rubber

Polysiloxane, often known as silicone rubber, is renowned for being malleable,

biocompatible, and resistant to high temperatures, fire, ozone, and ultraviolet
(UV) radiation. It comes in a range of hues in both solid and liquid forms. Its
chemical inertness makes it perfect for usage in components and goods that
need to be biocompatible and resistant to chemicals, such as gloves, respiration
masks, implants, and other medical devices (such as baby care items, cosmetic
applicators, and food containers and instruments).

4. Nitrile Rubber

Buna-N rubber, commonly known as nitrile rubber or nitrile butadiene rubber

(NBR), exhibits several advantageous mechanical and chemical characteristics,
including resistance to heat, oil and gas, compression set, and wear. These

 characteristics make it appropriate for use in engine hoses, automobile gaskets &
seals, and O-rings. Since it doesn't include the allergenic proteins found in latex-
based rubbers and keeps its structural integrity better than silicone rubber, it is
also utilized in medical items (such as surgical gloves).

5. EPDM Rubber

The synthetic rubber known as ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM)

rubber has exceptional endurance, avoiding deterioration and damage from
harsh temperatures and weather. Due to these characteristics, it may be used in
exterior components and goods including hoses, seals, and roofing sealants. It is
suitable for use in automotive systems thanks to its outstanding noise and heat
insulation qualities.

6. Rubber made of styrene-butadiene (SBR)

Rubber made of styrene and butadiene called styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is

distinguished by its higher hardness and endurance. It outperforms some of the
more costly synthetic rubbers in terms of resistance to abrasion, alcohol,
compression set, and water swell, which makes it perfect for use in hydraulic
braking system seals. Cutting boards, gaskets, and shoe bottoms are a few other
frequent applications.

7. Rubber Butyl

One of the materials with the greatest degrees of gas permeability is butyl
rubber, sometimes referred to as isobutylene isoprene. Due to this characteristic
as well as the material's exceptional flexibility, it may be used to create airtight
products like sealants, sports balls, and inner tubes. It is frequently added as a
liquid ingredient to chewing gum, diesel, and petroleum fuels.

8. Rubber Fluor silicon

Extreme temperatures (ranging from -100 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit),

transmission fluids, petroleum oils and fuels, synthetic lubricants, fire, and ozone

 are all things that fluorosilicate rubber, also known as FVMQ, is extremely
resistant to. Due to these characteristics, it is the perfect material for fuel systems
in airplanes and other highly specialized industrial applications.

Features Of Rubber

As previously mentioned, rubber is available in a variety of forms, each of which

has distinct characteristics. But most rubbers, if not all of them, also have a few things in
common, like:

1. Elasticity: Rubber materials' molecular makeup enables them to regain their

original shape after being crushed or extended. Rubber bands exhibit this quality.
The individual molecules are momentarily pulled or pushed out of line with one
another when a rubber band is stretched or compressed. Once the stretching or
compressing force is eliminated, the molecules revert to their initial positions
since they are bound to one another.

2. Thermal Contraction: Rubber compresses under heat whereas most materials

expand. This peculiar occurrence is caused by the rubber molecules' reaction to
heat. The already twisted and knotted molecules get even more twisted and
tangled when heat is added. The molecules return to their resting state when
heat is applied or withdrawn, and the rubber takes on its original form.
3. Durability: Most rubbers are extremely durable, resisting tearing and abrasive
pressures, impact, low temperatures, and water. They also show a comparatively
low rate of heat accumulation.

Various uses of rubber in Industries:
 Rubber molded items, such as rubber goods and appliances, are widely utilized
in the industry (and in certain residential applications).
 Garden hoses and pipes made of rubber are utilized in small-scale gardening
applications.
 The majority of automotive tyres and tubes are made of rubber. As a result,
rubber is extremely vital in the vehicle and transportation industries.

was established in 1986 as a branch of Asian Paints India. To permit a tighter
management focus, Apcotex Lattices ALL was split off from the former in 1991. It
produces synthetic rubber lattices like styrene-butadiene rubber latex and vinyl

used natural and synthetic rubber tubes, butyl tubes, and tread scraps for use in

Additionally, it is India's largest Original Equipment Manufacturer OEM tyre
provider, offering a wide variety of tyres for everything from two-wheelers to
fighter jets. MRF Ltd. was founded in 1946 by K M Mammen Mappillai as a small
toy balloon unit. The company's manufacturing facilities are situated in Trichy,
Tiruvottiyur, and Arakonam in Tamil Nadu, Kottayam in Kerala, Ponda in Goa,
Medak in Andhra Pradesh, and Union Territory of Pondicherry. Later, in
November 1960, the business decided to try its hand at tyre manufacture by
forming a technical partnership with Tire Rubber Company USA. The business
put its primary facility into service in 1964. Additionally, they established a foreign
Government on March 24, 2020, which led to the closure of the company's

 REGULATORY BODY FOR RUBBER INDUSTRY
The rubber board is the main regulatory body responsible for the development of the
rubber industry in India. It is a statutory organization that is headquartered at Kottayam
in Kerala and is constituted under Section (4) of the Rubber Act, 1947. It maintains the
general statistical data of rubber, and further takes steps to promote the marketing of
rubber and undertake labor welfare-related activities. Also, is responsible to function the
administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in India by assisting and
encouraging the research, extension, development, and other training activities related
to the production and regulation of rubber. The types of Rubber covered under the
Rubber Board include Natural rubber, Synthetic rubber, and Reclaimed rubber.
The Rubber Board is headed by a Chairman - Dr. Sawar Dhanania appointed by the
Central Government to take charge of the Rubber Board on 30 June 2021 and, Dr. K.N.
Raghavan was appointed as the Executive Director of the Rubber Board in 2019. The
main board team includes 28 other members who are responsible for representing
various interests of the natural rubber industry. There are mainly five departments that
cover the activities of the Board which are - Extension & Advisory Services, Research
Services (Rubber Research Institute of India), Training (Rubber Training Institute), and
General Services & Finance. Apart from this, there are other five independent divisions
which are - Publicity & Public Relations, Internal audit, Market Promotion, Planning, and
Vigilance.

The rubber board issues three types of licenses such as dealer's license, processor
license, and manufacturer’s license. The constituents of the rubber industry in India are
involved in manufacturing more than 3,500 rubber-related products having different
applications and uses. India's potential contribution to the emerging rubber sector
globally is mainly in rubber belts and hoses, rubber gloves, mechanical rubber goods,
and industrial rubber products.
In India, West Bengal is considered a pioneer of the Indian rubber industry. The latest
rubber industrial policy of West Bengal's government supports the rubber industry as a
whole. Howrah is known to be the upcoming mega industrial cluster of rubber in India -
which will be named "A rubber Park". The Rubber Board, the Union Ministry of
Commerce and Industry, the Government of West Bengal, and WBIDC are the key
stakeholders of the Howrah project along with other 206 constituents of the Indian
rubber industry.
Therefore, an SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) has also been formed which is done to
set up, maintain and administer the South Asia Rubber and Polymers Park (SARPOL).
As, rubber production in India can support this by providing the principal raw material
