Detailed Lesson Plan in Math 3 Symmetry
Detailed Lesson Plan in Math 3 Symmetry
I. Objectives
Within the 60-minute period, the pupils should be able to:
a. identify symmetry and line of symmetry in a given shape and real world
examples;
b. show appreciation on the importance of symmetry;
c. demonstrate cooperation in doing the group work activity;
d. complete the missing half of a symmetrical object by applying their
understanding of symmetry.
III. Procedure
-Very good!
(follow up question)
-When one half of a figure looks like the (pupils will look for the half of their
mirror image of the other half, it is figure)
symmetry.
(show the butterfly figure)
(will say the pairs won)
-And this is the line of symmetry that
divides a figure into two matching sides.
What do you call this line? (give their answer)
-Very good!
We call this line vertical symmetry when
it goes up and down. (answer the question)
(show examples)
-Excellent!
When the line of symmetry goes left to -Yes teacher!
right or right to left, it is called horizontal
symmetry. (will answer)
(ask examples)
(give their own meaning)
-Now, look at the classroom and give
other examples of symmetry and indicate
where/what is the line of symmetry. -Yes teacher!
Example is the board, the line of
symmetry can be vertical or horizontal. (will do the angel clap)
-Let us have our group work again. You (pupils will give their examples)
will work again as a group, so what are
the important things that you will do?
-Very good!
(will give the activities for each group)
-Horizontal Symmetry.
-Yes teacher!
-Yes teacher!
Activities:
Group 1. Tell if the pictures show line of symmetry. Write YES or NO
_______1. _______4.
_______2. _______5.
_______3.
1. 4.
2. 5.
3.
Evaluation
(Knowledge) Read the sentences and answer what is asked. Choose from the box the
correct answer and write on the space before the number.
__________________1. When one half of a figure looks like the mirror image of the
other half.
__________________2. An imaginary line that divides a figure into two matching
sides.
__________________3. Is an example of symmetry.
(Process) Draw a smiley face on the blank if the lines indicate the line of symmetry,
and sad face if not.
_______4. _______7.
______5. _______8.
______6.
(Understanding) Write SYMMETRY if the figure is symmetry. If not, draw it again on
the blank and put the correct line of symmetry.
