A.
Based on your reading and class discussion, what can you say about the presentation of the
film during 19th century.
The film was very classic and magnificent. They really studied how the lives of the Filipinos
are during the 19th century. The way the characters portrait their roles was great especially
Nicolas Ocampo who is the main character in this film.
In this film, you can see the difference on how they dress, they speak, their culture, the
source of entertainment and transportation, and how they classified their selves within the
society. Woman dresses beautifully with their long skirts and blouses. In this time, church is
higher than the state because if you are one of the priests, you are already powerful and rich.
They respect you and protect you. The dialect they are using are mostly spanish and tagalog
because as of the 19th century we are colonize by the Spaniards. The source of entertainment is
what we called the sarzuela, or the theater. Their mode of transportation when you are rich is
horses and cows with their kalesas, but if you are one of the kastilas, you can only walk with or
withour your tsinelas.
In this time, even Filipinos felt like they are foreign in their own country. They don't know
that they are Filipinos, they always believe that they are kastilas and doesn't origin from their
own country. It is because most of them lack in education. Spaniards are taking advantage of
their lands and properties.
2. What is your own reflection based on the film and understanding? Learning outcome.
World in continually changing, but that does mean that we should forget the past. While
watching "Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon" made me realize that, how education change
our lives
as Filipinos.
The way they dress during the 19th century are nice, but still when Americans came, rape
is still there. We have now different clothes that we can wear and be fashionable, but rape is still
here, but the change is, in the past there are no justice given to the ladies, but gladly woman
empowerment arises to fight for woman because we all deserve it. During the 19th century, it
takes days for them to go to their destination, but now, it will only take you hours even by just
sitting. How lucky we are, aren't we? In the past, people take advantage to the poor people who
own lands and buy it for an unfairly cost but those people can't argue or bargain because they
lack in knowledge about this kind of trading and transaction. This time, we have lawyers in charge
with this to have proper titles and complete papers to process these things for our properties.
Education in 19th century is only for people who has money. Now, government are offering
scholarships and we have 4P's already to fund those who wants to study and learn.
Education is really a wonderful weapon. It is the reason why we have freedom now. It is
also the tool that our hero, Dr. Rizal used to bring hope to this nation. Without education, we are
nothing right now. Changes wouldn't be possible, and hope wouldn't be enough for all of us. This
is what I realized throughout the film, that we must not belittle everything that we are learning
from our school and society. That we youth, should always involve ourselves in the government,
to know what is happening, and to fight what is right. We shouldn't forget what happen in the
past especially how the Spanish abuse us, and how Filipinos are being mistreated. We should not
waste what Dr. Rizal started, we should be the change, and I believe we can do that.
