Title: How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife (Short Story)
How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife is a short story about a man named Leon
introducing his city-born wife, Maria to his more provincial family.
Resolution: Leon's entire family talked to Maria. Baldo informed his father about their journey
and how well Maria adjusted to rural life. When speaking to her, the voice of Leon’s father was
livelier than before, meaning he had already accepted Maria wholeheartedly.
Plot device used: Twist Ending - a radical departure from the expected outcome
Maria was worried that Leon’s father might not like her since she might find it difficult to fit in
with their way of life. Leon replied to her that his father is the gentlest person he knows. She
was tested if she’s worthy to be Leon’s wife. This was seen when Baldo ignored his older
brother’s question about why they had to go to Waig instead of Camino Real. Maria passed the
test given by Leon’s father since Baldo was impressed by how she acted during their journey
and told their father about it.
