MARKING OF THE SPOKEN EXAM – GENERAL INFORMATION

The examinations are assessed against the following four criteria:


 Task Fulfilment and Coherence: the ability to manage the tasks adequately for the level and link
the utterances into a coherent speech
 Accuracy and Range of Grammar: the ability to demonstrate a range and control of grammar
 Accuracy and Range of Vocabulary: the ability to demonstrate a range and control of vocabulary
 Pronunciation, Intonation and Fluency: the ability to connect utterances, maintain the flow and
engage in effective communicative exchanges

For each criterion for all parts marks from 0 to 4 can be given. A total of 64 marks can be achieved and
candidates can pass the exam from 50%.

Candidates are awarded a final result based on the following scores:

First Class Pass 90% - 100%

Pass 50% - 89%

Narrow Fail 45% - 49%

Fail 0 - 44%
