ANALYZE
1.From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDs videos that you
viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?
Being a great teacher is possessing these competencies: First, is the ability to broaden and
deepen knowledge by knowing and understanding what to teach to students. Second, the capability to
acknowledge each student's needs and help them throughout the teaching and learning process not only
academically as well as to develop them holistically through integrating values in every lesson. Third,
teachers can establish a rapport with parents and other people who support each student's learning by
having leadership skills that take the community into consideration. Finally, there is always an opportunity
for development. Teachers not only impart knowledge to students, but they also learn. As a result, they are
able to identify the positive attributes and abilities they need to develop in order to become more effective
teachers over time.

2.Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

No, since I believe that these competencies are the most important aspect of being dedicated to
our profession. Everyone can be a teacher in different ways, and these competencies can be acquired as
they expand their understanding of teaching. Because they are driven to teach, even non-professional
teachers have these professional competencies. These capabilities can be enhanced as we gain
experience. It only gets limited based on the individual's desire, passion, and goal. It will not be possible
unless they have a strong desire to teach.

3.For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a lesson,
execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades? Explain your answer.
A teacher's greatness is not assessed by how successfully he or she can prepare and execute a
lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, or compute and report grades. These are just indications of
a teacher carrying out their duties in accordance with their job. The greatness of the teachers can foresee
in the students that they handle. If students can apply what they've learned in class to real-world
challenges, they are effective teachers that encourage students to learn not only academically but also
holistically in developing their positive values towards life. Through effective communication and
rapport-building, teachers can go above and beyond the scope of their course plans by encouraging
students to pursue their aspirations and set greater goals.

4.For a teacher to be great, which is more important – personal qualities or professional competencies?
For me, having both positive personal qualities and professional competencies will do to be a great
teacher. We must not only focus on our daily lesson plan but rather know how our students will learn.
Students are highly motivated by a teacher who listens to them since they have their own language. We
must understand and be patient with what they want to say or do because it may help them learn. Then,
professional competencies must be adapted in order for us to make learning meaningful, making us a
pioneer who creates a bright future for our students while contributing to the development of our country.

5.Who are the teachers that we remember most?

Students frequently remember teachers who show positive characteristics in teaching, These
characteristics are courteous, humorous, bright, enthusiastic, and even eccentric. Students learn and are
motivated by this teacher since they may speak and freely express their thoughts. Teachers who notice
when they are struggling, so they realize these teachers genuinely care about them. Teachers who make
no assumptions about what they are and are not capable of doing, teachers just stand there and watch.
And they come to their rescue when they are in need. Students remember teachers who saw something in
them that no one else did. Also, students remember teachers who taught values that can be applied in their
everyday lives.
REFLECT
Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement?
The personal traits that I possess as I become an educator are: that I am adaptable to changes, I
adapt will my instructional strategies based on the ages of my students, the resources available, and
changing curriculum, practices, and requirements to be able to function in a constantly changing
environment. Showing empathy and understanding to different students, I will consider that students
learn differently, some of the activities may be easier for others, and for some are not, I must be observant
before we designate some learning tasks. And I am eager to learn, teachers not only teach but also want
to learn, they said that being a teacher is having a lifetime to learn, as time passes by there are lots of
concepts that we can absorb as we teach and this can be meaningful to our everyday life. On the other
hand, The personal trait that I think I do not possess and must be improved is my communication skills
since having a small voice is not enough to teach a lot of students, also it is where we can know if our
students are really learning not only the concepts but also the values that integrated with the lesson.

Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?

I am able to understand what I teach since sometimes I go through deep research about the
concepts that I will study, this may help me in teaching my students since I have a lot of prior knowledge I
will able to expound our topic if ever my students ask me more about it. Also, I am very resourceful, I find
ways if some problem arises throughout the teaching and learning process.

In which competencies do I need to develop more?

I need to develop more are my communication skills, preparation, and time management. This is
crucial since this will help me to have a smooth flow of discussion when I am teaching. I will do a lot of
practice by watching and reading sources that will help my teaching career.

Who are the teachers that we remember most?

As I experience, I remember my teacher in Grade 6, who encourage me to showcase my talents
and abilities like drawing, slogan making, and even in singing, she showed me that she believe in me. Even
though we have a good relationship she tells me about the wrong things that I do in a polite manner. Also I
tend to remember those teachers who are humorous and strict since they also influence me to who I am
and how I learn today.
WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS
(I based on the online class of Grade 2 students - English St. Albert - Mrs. Duran)

1.OBSERVED In assisting my Resource Teacher, I observed that personal traits such as being
enthusiastic, kind, patient, and open to her student's thoughts and opinions.
Professionals Competencies like mastery of the lesson where she was able to answer students' questions,
integration of values that can be applied in a real-life situation, and classroom management since it is an
online class all students were able to participate and not distracted by anything were least/ not displayed
and as result, students were/class was time management where activities became an assignment since it
has not a lot of time to do it.

2 REFLECT The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies (mentioned in #1) may be
caused by the mode of learning, which is the online class since the gestures, the creativity of learning
materials, the communications are become limited, unlike the face-to-face classes the students clearly see
what teachers want to deliver.

3 PLAN I would like to address this problem (mentioned in #2) by conducting an action research on

The Coping Mechanisms of Teachers through Online Learning

Being a great teacher is having positive attributes and competencies that will help students
to learn. Through this episode, I have learned that a teacher's influence on a student's life might be very
positive or negative. One of the few professions that directly affects the future of our country is teaching
since teachers hone every student to be productive which will able them to contribute to the development of
our country. Teachers should possess positive characteristics such as Being considerate and
understanding of our students that can developing the ability to build good relationships with our students,
Being compassionate and having a sensitivity to student differences, Being kind-hearted that motivates
students to believe in their own skills and abilities, And having dedication and love for teaching or passion
for the work, which includes a commitment to students success.

Since I view education as an integral element of living, I am excited to pursue a career in

education. Being an educator will provide us the chance to truly impact the lives of countless children.
Every day that we teach, we have the opportunity to form relationships with various students and make a
difference in their life by influencing the way they see the world. If we make an impression on students that
they will never forget by imparting knowledge and morals that they can use in their everyday lives, they
might remember us. As I progress along this path, my sense of eagerness grows stronger every day and I
hope to fulfill my goal of becoming a professional teacher.
