8th PROJECT EPMEETING
Thessaloniki 21-27 November 2006

Experimental High School of University of Macedonia, Tessaloniki, Greek.
The 8th EPMeeting took place in Thessaloniki, Greece, between 21 and 27 November 2006. The host
school was the Experimental High School of University of Macedonia. The other contributing partners
were Mustafa Ozkan Αnatolian High School, 3 teachers- 2 pupils (Incesu, Kayseri, Turkey), Bunyan
Anatolian High School, 6 teachers - 4 pupils (Bunyan, Kayseri, Turkey) and Liceo Boggio Lera, 2
teachers-8 pupils (Catania, Italy). In the meeting also two German students were present (D. Bein and D.
Pfaff) who had been declared winners of EPM Award 2005 best article.
The meeting started with a small reception ceremony, organized by the host school, which involved a
welcome speech by the
Headmaster of the school,
a brief music and folk
dance program, and a tour
of the school facilities. The
main program started with
the prize award of the two
students. Then, as it is
common, a lot of
discussion has been spent
on what has been done so
far, after a presentation
made by Italian pupils. The
experiences and problems
arisen so far had been
presented by M. Zarfdjan
and all the partners
exchanged their opinions,
in order to find the proper
solutions. The main

communication between the editors and the
referees and between the partners sometimes and
finally the spreading of the magazine. All partners
made proposals to eliminate or even lessen these
problems. A summary of the decisions made is:
1) the strict application of the guidelines for
authors, supervising teachers and referees, 2) the
widening of subjects, 3) the dissemination of the
magazine to even more schools, 4) the renewal of
the EPM site, 5) the establishment of scheduled
teleconferences among the partners, 6) the
production of an interactive multimedia CD, 7)
each issue will be printed by a different school, in
rotation.
Along the official sessions, the pupils presented
GREEK FOLK DANCE also other interesting subjects. The Turkish pupils
presented a technological application concerning
the production of electricity in their country, famous scientists from their history, the educational system in
Turkey and a brief history of Thessaloniki and Kemal’s house. Greek pupils presented the way the science
lessons are taught in their country, the Ottoman monuments and the buildings made by Italian architects in
Thessaloniki.
On the parallel activities, all partners visited also the University of
Macedonia, where the Rector Prof. E. Kouskouvelis, the Supervisor of
the host school Prof. D. Goudiras and Prof. Triarhou welcomed them
and delivered a talk about the University studies and activities. Then, they
visited the house, where Kemal Attaturk was born and finally had a tour
of the center of Thessaloniki.
During the last day an excursion took place to Vergina, a famous
archeological site, which was the capital of the Ancient Macedonians, VISIT AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF MACEDONIA
where, the royal tombs are placed. There, all partners had the opportunity
to follow a guided tour about the history of Macedonia, as well.
In the afternoon, there was the final session, where a summary of all the decisions was made by Italian
pupils.
The official program ended with the farewell dinner at a maritime restaurant in Kalamaria region,
where all partners and all the teachers of the host school took part. All partners thanked the organizing
