CULTURAL SAILING VESSEL ARKA KINARI RELEASES LAUT LOUD,
A SERIES OF OFF-SHORE LIVE SESSIONS
A series of live music performances from the deck of ARKA KINARI, on the waters of Bali and
Sumba, featuring Gabber Modus Operandi, Kadapat, Rollfast, Putu Septa, Jekshon, and
Mama Esther.
LAUT LOUD is a live session video series recorded on board the cultural sailing vessel ARKA
KINARI. On this project, the crew of ARKA KINARI collaborates with local musicians and
filmmakers to produce documentary videos, while also archiving musical and cultural
treasures from the underground, avant-garde, and traditional.
On every island visited by ARKA KINARI for the recording of this series, ARKA KINARI’s crew
actively involves local curators to select the performers for each session. The musicians
chosen to perform at LAUT LOUD are considered to be especially unique and relevant to
their local culture, and have pushed the outer edges of sound with their musical works.
ARKA KINARI is a sailing vessel and floating cultural platform initiated by multimedia artists
Grey Filastine and Nova Ruth, and aided by a multinational crew of sailors and volunteers.
Since 2019, the ship has sailed from Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and through Indonesia’s
eastern shores using renewable energy and spreading the word on sustainability and a
post-carbon future. The ship is also a floating cultural platform sounding the alarm on
climate change and building a network of communities, especially in the coastal areas it has
visited.
On each port it visited, ARKA KINARI transformed itself into a floating off-shore stage
featuring audiovisual performances by Filastine & Nova, sometimes in collaboration with
local artists and musicians. The ship is also home to various workshops, discussions, and
other cultural activities on board. To this day, ARKA KINARI has sailed over 30 thousand
miles, visited over 23 countries, and are still touring the Indonesian archipelago for the
foreseeable future.
For the debut seasons of LAUT LOUD, the ship will feature six episodes of performances
from six different performers we met in Bali and Sumba. The Bali performances are curated
by Kasimyn, a DJ and producer who performs with internationally-acclaimed dance group
Gabber Modus Operandi. While the Sumba episodes are curated with women’s rights
activist, community organizer, and cultural activist Nency Dwi Ratna.
Season 01 was recorded in Denpasar, Bali, while Season 02 was recorded in Waingapu,
Sumba. Each episode will be published through Filastine & Nova – ARKA KINARI’s official
YouTube channel every Thursday and Sunday, with the following schedule:

Right now, ARKA KINARI is touring around Java, Sulawesi, and Sangihe for the 2022 sailing
season. They are planning on recording more episodes of LAUT LOUD in the near future.
