BACKGROUND:
‘© Grand Forks City Code 8-1203, (2) states “The officially designated routes for use of snowmol
within the corporate limits of the City of Grand Forks shall be determined by the Chief of Police
annually
ANALYSIS AND FINDINGS OF FACT:
‘+ The Grand Forks Police Department has reviewed the route from last year, collaborated with
Greenway staff, and the local GF Snowmobile Club.
‘+ The Chief of Police for the Grand Forks Police Department has determined the snowmobile route
for 2022-2023 needed to change from past years.
‘+ Past snowmobile routes included several paths that are no longer safe for snowmobile travel due
to the increase of vehicle traffic and road expansions. The largest change is the removal of the
42% St corridor for north/south travel within the City of Grand Forks,
‘+ The Grand Forks Snowmobile Club came forward with a solution to this north/south travel deficit
with an expansion of the snowmobile route used in past years.
© Riverside Greenway area southbound to DeMers Ave. (approved in past years) to
continue southbound within the Greenway area to 62"4 Ave. S.
‘+ Due to feedback from councilmembers when the route was proposed to the Committee of the
‘Whole, Chief Nelson has elected to designate the attached snowmobile route for 2022-2023,
‘© Removes north/south corridor through Greenway.
© Maintains northern trails from previous approved route.
© Allows limited south end access to nearest fuel station from edge of City limits.
‘© Advertising of 2022-2023 Snowmobile Route by the Police Department will commence December
6, 2022.
‘+ Aroute with a north/south corridor will continue to be explored with stakeholders, for future
route designation.
