Checklist of preparation for

Arrival in port
 In preparing the Passage Plan for Arrival In Port, Have the following factors
been taken into consideration?
1. Advise / Recommendations in Sailing Directions.
2. Latest Weather Reports.
3. Tides & Currents For Port / Adjacent Areas.
4. Calculated / Known Minimum & Maximum Depths Of Water In Port
Approaches, Channels & At Berth.
5. Any Restrictions On Draught, Trim, Speed, Entry Times, Etc.
6. Available Port Information.
 Is it necessary to rearrange Cargo / Ballast?
 Are all relevant Charts & Nautical Publications corrected upto date &
courses laid Off?
 Have the latest Navigational Messages for the area been received.
 Has ETA been sent with all relevent information required By Local
Regulations (e.g. Details Of Dangerous / Hazardous Goods Carried).
 Has all Navigational Equipment including Steering Gear been tested &
Stabilisers housed.
 Has the following Equipment been checked.
1. Synchronisation of Clocks.
2. Internal Communications Equipment.
3. Signalling Equipment including Lights / Flags.
4. Deck Lighting.
5. Mooring Winches.
6. Mooring Lines / Wires / Heaving Lines.
7. Pressure on Fire Main.
8. Course & Engine Movement Recorder
 If Appropriate, Have the Checks In Checklist 4 been carried out & a Pilot
Card completed.
 Has Manual Steering been engaged in sufficient time for the helmsman to
become accustomed before maneuvering commences.
 Has each remote steering gear control system power failure alarm been
checked?
 Have all compass repeaters (including the engine room/steering gear been
aligned with the master compass?
 Has the emergency power source (generator and/or storage batteries) for
emergency lighting and power to the vessel control and propulsion systems
been tested?
 Has the main propulsion been tested ahead and astern? (NB: Propellors to
be checked clear before turning over the engines)?
 Have the bow/stern thrusters been tested?
 Has the crew been advised of the time of “Stand-By” for entering port.
 Has communication been established with the engine room and duty
engineer?
 Have VHF Channels for various services (e.g. VTS, Pilot, Tugs, Berthing
Instructions.) been noted & A Radio Check carried out.
 Is the following berthing information available.
 whether Anchoring / Berthing alongside.
 which side to jetty.
 whether ship accommodation ladder / gangway or shore gangway will be
used.
 size / number of shore connections. derricks required. mooring boats / lines.
