Concept of Lesson Plan

In an educative process, teaching is an important part of education and lesson planning is the
essential requisite or main ingredient of good teaching. The basic meaning of the lesson
planning is the formulation of a plan of action or rather a blue print of a lesson.

A lesson plan plan is a careful plan of action, what the teacher is going to teach in a particular
class. Through this lesson plan, the teacher outlines all the activities that he/she wants to
achieve through teaching like what to teach, how to teach, what methods or apparatus or
devices are going to be used etc. Thus, lesson planning means the detailed description, which
a teacher completes in a definite time period that differs from institutions to institutions

In a lesson plan, a teacher should give emphasis on the description of the following items i.e.,
general aims, specific aims, previous knowledge of the students, appropriate strategies of
teaching, techniques of teaching, teaching aids, correlation between the new knowledge of
the students and other subjects, teacher's activities, evaluation of the knowledge acquired by
the students etc.

According to Lester B. Sands, " A lesson plan is actually a plan of action. It therefore
includes the working philosophy of the teacher, her knowledge of philosophy, her
information about an understanding of her pupils, her comprehension of the objectives of
education, her knowledge of the material to be taught and her ability to utilise effective
methods."
