Problem Statement
Motivate youth to consider strategies that they can engage in to contribute to crime prevention
and reduction.
Research:
Since the beginning of time, crime has been a major source of concern. As mankind and
understanding advance, crime evolves, and the number of methods to commit crimes expands. A
crime, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is "an act or omission that constitutes an offense and
is punished by law." Murder, rape, arson, robberies, and kidnapping are examples of serious
crimes, while prostitution, vandalism, and small-scale illegal drug sales are examples of less
serious crimes.
Despite the prevalence of these well-known crimes, cybercrime is one of the least discussed.
Many people have been harmed by cyber thieves as technology advances and new digital
connections are created. "Cybercrime refers to any criminal action carried out via computers or
the internet (AvastAcademy)," according to the definition. Phishing attacks, identity theft,
frauds, and fraud are just a few of the most common cyber crimes.
"In the most current study for the year ending in March 2018, the ONS estimates that roughly 4.5
million cyber offences were committed in England and Wales during that twelve-month period,"
according to an article authored by Sandra Henshaw. Around 3.24 million of those were fraud
offenses, while roughly 1.23 million were computer-related offenses (including child
pornography and hacking)." Furthermore, in February 2021, one of the federation's most
prestigious banking institutions, National bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, was revealed to have been
hacked, resulting in the immediate suspension of their services.
These figures demonstrate the significant impact of cybercrime on our society. It's an issue that
has to be addressed. Some tips that can be implemented to prevent the effects of these measures
includes:
