I’m currently a junior at the University of Foreign Language. My major is English for
tourism, which means that I am studying to be qualified as a tour guide or tour
operator in the future.

2
You will see more countries & cities than you ever thought possible.
In most cases, a tour guide does not just do the same tour loop for an entire season.
A fully trained tour guide will have the opportunity to guide many different
itineraries for their tour company – meaning you will visit, study and experience new
destinations multiple times! Start racking up that country count, you’re about to
become a professional full-time traveller.
3
Your schedule can change without prior notice
You also have to be pretty spontaneous as a tour guide.
Schedules may change unexpectedly since your clients might be late and you may
have to work many extra hours due to that.
In fact, many tour guides work extra hours for what they don’t even get paid for and
this can be extremely unsatisfying, especially if you really put in the effort and work
hard to provide the best experience possible for your clients.
4
Absolutely yes Being a tour guide is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. You
get to do for a living what others only get to do on vacation, you get to meet
amazing people from all over the world and you get to marvel at some awe-inspiring
sites on a daily basis. But that doesn’t mean to say it’s easy…

Being a tour guide is also a very challenging job and one that isn’t for everybody.
5
Travel and tourism is a global industry, providing a range of opportunities to
graduates, both in the VN and abroad.
Depending on the area in which you wish to work, getting experience in customer
care, dealing with large groups, sales and travelling can be useful. Generally having
experience in any public-facing role will be helpful. Jobs directly related to your
degree include:
Air cabin crew
Holiday representative
Hotel manager
Tour manager
Tourism officer
Tourist information centre manager
Travel agency manager, tour guide or even an interpreter or translator

Which three of these do you think are most important in a job?

Colleagues
Full-time workers will spend a big chunk of their waking lives at work, so it’s vital to
ensure that the people you’re working with are the right fit for you. Having a good
support network at work will help to motivate you each day, and as human beings
are naturally social creatures, work friendships and positive interactions will increase
happiness and productivity both inside and outside the office.

Salary
Unless you have a private income or somebody else finances your lifestyle, the salary
from your job will pay for your home, food, and everything else. As such, it’s vital to
ensure that your job salary meets the minimum expectations for your job role and
title, caters to your basic needs, and can sustain your lifestyle.
Maternity leave is good for workers and for business. A maternity leave policy
attracts and retains employees and helps mothers take the time they need so they
can come back to the job ready to work

Language Teacher Advantages: Teaching a foreign language allows you to learn

more about the culture of the people whose native language this is. Many lessons
are concerning the history, geography, and culture of the country itself. You will
encounter students who traveled to this country and will be able to learn new things
every time. if you decide to travel to a foreign country to teach your native language,
you will definitely experience new things and be able to learn about how locals in
this country live, their traditions and mentality. Travelling and languages are closely
related, so if you are a fan, it's another reason to opt for language teaching.
Disadvantages: Time is the most important thing in learning the English language. It
takes time for the teachers to observe their students and teach them at their level.
The time of the class is very little for the teachers to teach the English language.
This one of the most difficult tasks for the teachers to teach in less time.
This is probably not possible for the teachers to complete the topics of their lectures
in less time, which is not enough.
Secretary Advantages : As a secretary, you will also work for people with leading
roles inside your company. In fact, only people who reach a certain level will have
the opportunity to have a secretary working for them. This also implies that you will
work with pretty important people. Quite often, you will work for people who belong
to the senior management or even the board of directors. While this may sound
intimidating at first, those people are just only humans like you and me and you
should not be scared. You will be surprised who nice those people are, even though
there is a lot of pressure on their shoulders.
Consequently, working as a secretary can also be great for you if you want to get to
know many important people.
Disadvantages: Being a secretary can be difficult for your private life
Since your partner will also know that affairs between secretaries and bosses are
quite common, he or she will often not be able to trust you and will become quite
jealous in the long run.
In fact, many relationships ended due to those high levels of mistrust and becoming
a secretary may therefore lead to all sorts of issues in your private life.
Tour guides can work in many different locations
As a tour guide, you can also work in many different locations.
While you might start your tour guide career in your home town, you could also
work in many different locations across the country or even work in foreign countries
all over the world.
If you are really good at what you are doing and are also able to speak English
fluently, you will be able to work in almost every country of our planet as a tour
guide.
Disadvantages: You can’t work from home as a tour guide
While many people who work in classical office jobs for big corporations will have
the option to work from home, you will just not have this luxury since you will be
present at a specific location to do your tours.
In turn, you will be less flexible to manage your private life since you can’t work
location-independently.

Pay: Your compensation package should be able to meet your basic needs and help
you plan for the future. As you look for a job, be sure to review your budget and
understand how much you need to earn to pay your bills. Research the salary range
for jobs you are considering so that you can better negotiate a starting salary.
Work environment
Because you will be spending a lot of time at work, make sure that the work
environment is a good fit for you. Consider whether you prefer working in a small
company or a large corporation. Check out the work spaces and try to get a feel for
the place. A workspace that excites you can increase your job satisfaction and overall
happiness.
When you visit for an interview, watch employees as they work to see if employees
look happy and the workplace seems pleasant. Be sure to check out how employees
are dressed and if you are unsure, ask about the company dress code.
Opportunities for growth
Jobs that provide growth opportunities are especially important in the early years of
your career. Earlier in your career, you may work in roles that offer an entry-level
pay rate in exchange for the opportunity to gain experience and earn a full-time
position. If you are further along in your career, look for opportunities to develop
new skills in your job. Many companies offer on-site training or pay for classes as
part of your professional development. Look for a job that teaches you transferable
skills, helps you move into a senior position or helps you move toward larger career
goals.
1 What personal qualities does a person need to be a good boss?
No-one wants to work with a difficult or uncaring boss. A good boss is one who is
kind, helpful, caring and compassionate. This does not mean that the boss should be
a wimp or a push-over rather the opposite is true, the boss should be confident
enough to show their human side. As emotional beings, we all have our ups and
downs, during instances where for example an employee is sick or has a family
emergency, a good and understanding boss supports the employee appropriately
such as through granting sick off or a word of sympathy or encouragement.
Employees who work for a supportive boss are more likely to be happier; less
stressed and have higher work output.
2 Would you prefer to work for an organization or be self-employed? Why?
Firstly, self-employment gives more work-satisfaction than working for someone else
because it gives freedom to choose the domain and hours of work. Moreover, in
regular jobs, the employees have no authority to change anything and have to follow
the company’s protocols; however, in independent working arrangements,
individuals have the liberty to implement any idea or strategy to improve their work.
Thus, this freedom to work on their own terms improves their productivity.
Furthermore, self employed people can earn as much as they want provided that
they work hard whereas people working for others will get only a fixed salary.
3 What are the advantages and disadvantages of working from home, rather than
going to an office?
More independence
Working from home can provide autonomy and independence in your job that might
be absent in a physical workplace. Additionally, these types of roles require self-
discipline and motivation enough to manage time responsibly and complete job
tasks.
Save on expenses
This benefit can have several far-reaching effects. For instance, when you eliminate
commuting, you can reduce your fuel and transportation expenses. Telecommuting
can also help you reduce other expenses like work clothing, meals and even
childcare. Saving on the costs of childcare can be especially advantageous to parents
working from home.
Disadvantage: Distractions at home
Distractions like the television, pets or household chores can affect how you perform
your job. Too many distractions can lead to a decrease in your productivity and
motivation. You can avoid this by limiting anything that you find distracting in your
home. Use noise-canceling headphones and play relaxing music to block out noises
like traffic and neighborhood activity.
Less face time
With isolation and workplace disconnect comes less face time. Working remotely,
you won't have the same opportunities to speak face-to-face with coworkers and the
community unless you get out and about. You can also integrate more face-to-face
interactions within online conference platforms to engage with coworkers.
