5 PTD Group Assignment - Guidelines
5 PTD Group Assignment - Guidelines
The assignment will involve a team (comprising four to five students) visiting a business
organization and understanding application of OB concepts such as leadership and team
dynamics through observation and by conducting interviews. Each group of students will
have to go select any two OB concepts, and relate it to the practical application observed and
studied in relation to Personal & Team Dynamics. One goal of this assignment is to help
students understand concepts of PTD such as what is the impact of leadership on team
dynamics and apply them into an organizational setting. Another major goal is to provide an
opportunity for students to learn more about organizational behavior first hand and to use
their critical thinking and reflection skills to link their experiences with this organization to
their learning in relation to organizational behavior theory. The final goal is to provide
students with a platform to hone their skills as team members and leaders. Each team will
make a presentation to the class that describes what they learned about organizational
behavior, their OB analysis and what they learned about working on a team.
To understand and analyze the varied pattern of human behavior such as leadership in
teams
To develop the ability to draw inferences with respect to work behavior and relate it
to the concepts being studied in the course ‘ Personal & Team Dynamics’ in the
present Trimester
Based on the above broad objectives the assignment should be able to cover at least the
following specific objectives:
ii) Interpreting the behavioral theories from the observations and primary data by
illustrating how effective organizational leadership leads to robust inter-personal
dynamics and organizational effectiveness.
Method of Study:
The students will have to identify a business organization and conduct primary research by
observation method and interview method to study application of the subject.
Deliverables. This assignment includes two deliverables: (1) the classroom presentation, (2)
a report submission (in addition to the main body, the report should also include the
following: an individual assessment, team assessment, peer evaluation and organizational
assessment.) Each one is described in more detail below.
Presentations. Each presentation should be a maximum of 10 minutes long. In the
presentation, the group should share key learning from your project. Grading will be based
on application of organizational behavior theory to the organization under study and with this
team, as well as use of creativity in the presentation itself.
Team Assessment. Only one form needs to be submitted, but all team members should sign
it. It should be completed and turned in along with the final report. There is no set length for
the paper. A copy of the questions are included here:
Individual Assessment. Each member of the team should also reflect on his/her own learning
from this experience. The questions to ask oneself about this project are:
1. What did I learn about working on a team?
2. What did I learn about myself from this experience?
3. What will I do differently as a team member on future teams?
Peer Assessment. Each team member will assess the performance of all the other team
members for the project. Peer assessments are done anonymously. The feedback may be
shared, but not who provided it.
Organizational Assessment. The group is required to submit a feedback on the team’s
performance from the primary contact person in the organization worked.
Grading. This assignment is worth 20 marks. All members of the team will receive the same
grade unless the team decides otherwise. The class will also provide feedback on each team’s
presentation.
3. Method of Study
4. Application of any two concepts based on PTD course outline and critical analysis of
the company under study.
The assignment report should not be less than 7 pages nor should it exceed 10 pages for a
group. The students have to ensure that company introduction, Statement of objectives
and Method of Study do not consume more than 1 page and the major portion of the
review is only for the critical analysis of theoretical frameworks and their application in
the company, relationship of theory and practice, learning and conclusion.
The report has to include proper contents page. The students will have to use Times New
Roman font in 12 size with single line spacing for the paragraphs and sub-headings. The
main heading can be in 14-size font.
The assignment will have to be submitted in both soft and hard copies to the
respective instructors. The soft copies of the power point presentation slides to be
shared in advance with the concerned faculty member (before the day of the
presentation).
The classroom presentation is scheduled during 17th and 18th session of the course
(please follow the session plan given in course outline).
Expected Outcome:
This exercise is expected to make the students more aware of the dynamics involved
in people management in organizations.
This exercise is also expected to give the students an opportunity to work closely with
each other (in their respective groups) and help them enhance their interpersonal
skills.
Evaluation:
The total marks for the assignment are 20, which will be distributed in the following manner:
