Part 1

Introduction

The title of the program to be outlined in this curriculum is Leadership Promotion in Service and

Academia. The need for capacity development in leadership promotion in service and academia

include preparing personnel to take up leadership positions, to train personnel on leadership in

academia or service, to help build a foundation for great leadership hence the development of

various organizations. Course providers interact closely with a variety of organizations and

academia institutions to meet these requirements. This facilitates development of a leadership

ecosystem and improves understanding between organizational structures so as to develop the

best practices. By providing this course, we will be making a major contribution towards

development of organizations by providing skilled manpower for the industry, academia and

research.

Stakeholders drawn from academia and industry experts were engaged in the development of this

curriculum. Their views and contribution were incorporated in this curriculum. The stakeholders

included those from several academia institutes and organizations.

A vital society, a thriving economy, and an ambitious nation. These three key pillars are part of

the Saudi Arabia vision 2030 which is the national long term development policy that aims to

transform Saudi Arabia into a rich Kingdom. The course on leadership promotion in service or

academia will produce individuals well equipped with knowledge and skills to contribute to the

organizational and academic infrastructure development so as to promote growth. Also the

course units have been tailored to address the emerging trends in leadership as per current

research and findings. Due to rapid change of leadership styles and methods, lifelong learning

and research have been emphasized to ensure graduates of the course remain up to date

throughout their careers. The course aims to ensure its graduates strive to have a positive impact

on people’s lives throughout their work.

Purpose of the program

The course on leadership promotion and academia is aimed at training personnel in leadership

promotion so as to be effective both in the industry and academia. Since all organizations

function under various leadership systems, there is need to train personnel on leadership

promotion to help organizations achieve their goals and to grow.

Overview of classroom setting and facilities

The classes will be offered online. Because the learning will be blended, physical sessions will

be offered in the new hall in the University building. Practical sessions will be in laboratory 5

where illustrations on various leadership concepts will be made.

Philosophy statement

The ability to promote leadership in service or academia is vital if any organization is to attain

their visions in the long run. This course is determined to play a role in the awareness and active

promotion of leadership. In an effort to bridge the gap for high level managers in industries, this

course has been designed to ensure people who enroll in it are proficient and well informed on

leadership. They will be able to take on any leadership positions called upon with utter

confidence.

Organizing framework

The structured framework and human resource framework of leadership were used in the

development of this curriculum. The human resource framework was used because it places

more emphasis on people’s needs. This is necessary to nursing and healthcare because their main

job is usually taking care of the sick. Putting the needs of their patients before their own is

important for quality healthcare.

Program outcomes

At the end of the course, the learners should be able to;

1. Apply the knowledge of leadership promotion to solve problems in industry and

academia.

2. Appreciate foundation of leadership principles.

3. Design leadership concepts to meet desired needs

4. Identify, analyze and solve problems using the necessary leadership techniques and skills.

5. Appreciate the professional and ethical responsibility and impact of leadership promotion

solutions in global and societal context.

6. Remember the content taught in class.

Part 2

Curriculum plan

During the period of the program, the learners are expected to take all units offered failure to

which they shall be disqualified. A total of nine units will be offered, all necessary to understand

the concept of leadership promotion in both service and academia. All the units provided shall be

examined at the end of the period. The program offers the particular units from the vary basic

ideas of leadership to complex ideas. They arranged such that learners become conversant with

the basic ideas before being introduced to the concept ideas of the topic. This is done to improve

efficiency of the course and enable learners to gradually grow in their knowledge.

Month 1

Unit 1.Strategic leadership and management specialization

Prerequisites: None

Purpose of the course: Introduce basic concepts in leadership management.

Expected learning outcomes: To have the basic understanding of the role of a leader in

organizations.

Prerequisites: None

Purpose of the course: Introduce students to leadership in businesses.

Expected learning outcomes: Use various leadership tools to aid in solving problems

Purpose of the course: Provide learners with skills to help them embrace leadership roles

confidently.

Expected learning outcomes: By the end of this unit the learner should be able to demonstrate

leadership skills.

Prerequisites: Business leadership

Purpose of the course: Provide students with good understanding of different organizational

leadership models.

Expected learning outcomes: The learner should be able to describe and apply the various

organizational leadership models.

Prerequisites: None

Purpose of the course: Introduce concepts of modern day business to the learner.

Expected learning outcomes: Apply skills learned in order to help succeed in the modern day

business.

Prerequisites: None

Purpose of the course: The aim of the unit is to equip the learners with the techniques of

identifying efficient ways of project management.

Expected learning outcomes: To identify the meaning of project management.

Unit 7.Leadership in the 21st century organizations

Prerequisites: Organizational leadership

Purpose of the course: Enable learner to understand leadership in 21st century organizations.

Expected learning outcomes: To apply the knowledge of organizational leadership to

organizations in the 21st century.

Unit 8.Dynamic public speaking

Prerequisites: None

Purpose of the course: Its aim is to enable learners to better understand public speaking.

Expected learning outcomes: Learner should be able to be well conversant with the dynamics of

public speaking and leadership organization.

Prerequisites: Project management

Purpose of the course: The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to know how to strategize in

business.

Expected learning outcomes: By the end of the unit the learner is expected to use different

business strategies to try and eliminate business challenges.

Minimum student workload for the course

The minimum student workload for the course shall include: attending lectures, attending

tutorials, private study, assignments, practical sessions and the final assessment as tabulated

below.

Evaluation methods

Continuous assessment tests (CATs)

Individuals shall undertake at least three continuous assessment tests for the course.

Final assessment

At the end of the course, individuals are required to undertake an online exam.

The final assessment shall constitute 50% while continuous assessment tests and assignments

constitute 50% of the final marks.

Practical sessions shall also be examined and therefore individuals should make sure they attend

them.

Assessment regulations shall apply.

Grading system

The course shall be graded out of 100 marks. The marks shall be translated into literal grades as

follows.

 80% and above- A

 70% and above- B

 60% and above- C

 50% and above- D

 Below 50%- E

Practical projects shall be marked as pass or fail.

Award of course certificate

The certificate shall be classified as follows based on the overall average mark:

 80% and above- Distinction

 60% and below 80%- Merit

 40% and below 60%- Pass

The final classification of the certificate shall be based on all the units prescribed by the

curriculum and taken during the three month period of study.
